SOURCE: Tapping/Clicking Cylinder One Misfire Pending

Take a pressure test and see what #1 is reading. If all is ok then take off your valve cover and see if your lifters are moving and every thing is tight. see if you don't have a lose rocker.
When you do your pressure test, I would do them all to make sure what you have. If one is bad it will really be lower then the others. That is where your problem will be. Then you would have to go from there. But please let me know how things turn out.

SOURCE: Cylinder Misfires

It could be your spark plugs or a coil. To see if it's a coil move the coil from #5 to #6 the miss will change to that cylinder with code p0306 and change #1 to #3 and see if it changes to p0303. If it does replace all the coils. You change all coil because if one or two go you know the rest are not far behind

A misfire doesn't always have to be ignition... it's just the most common cause. Faulty or plugged injector, low compression. You need to check fuel pressure and test the fuel injector flow. Then check compression. If you don't have tools for these tests, take it to someone who does. Testing is much cheaper than throwing parts at the problem.

My astra 1.8 sxi is missing an won't go past 3000 revs

what is an astra, what year?
Holden Astra in Australia and New Zealand ????
what year, its not a 1951 like your double post implies.
MISFIRE< is caused by 50 things.
why no scan it, does the scan tool show 1 cylinder misfiring or all ,
this fact is key to Diagnosis.

misfire has only a few reasons in physics.
(bad weak compression, or water incursion)
bad spark
bad injection. (or lack of air but at 3000 there is plenty)
just 3 things,
ever heard of SCAN tool or the CEL lamp.
too bad year is not stated. as in 2001 your country uses OBD2.
that can infact tell you which cylinder is misfiring.

cylinder 4 misfire ,now if this is a GM product then i think you may need a reconditioned ECU init as if this is the 4 cyl engine and its same as the opel astra and zafiro and the vectra then its a common fault with a 2000 to 2004/5 model the computer is bolted to the engine inlet manifold and very weak and susceptable

I have a 2007 ford expedition el limited 5.4liter V8 cylinder 2 wheel drive /w 120,000. my check engine light came on out of the blue about 2 weeks ago. Soon after I made sure all my fluid levels were...

Answer to question 1) Absolutely, what you are describing is exactly what you would notice and feel with a faulty c/o! Significant power loss and a shaking/vibration that feels as though it's coming from the transmission. I would venture a guess that the computer detected an engine misfire before you noticed the problem and it gave you a "heads-up" with the check engine light. I would go ahead and change all of the plugs if it's been a while and at least the c/o on these 2 specific cylinders.
Answer to question 2) Several things could cause this sound. First, and most likely with the 5.4, from what you describe you have lifter "ticking". Typical for Ford, not hating, just saying. In fact I own a 98' like yours. The other possibility is that it's an exhaust leak. You can determine which it is with a mechanics stethascope or even a short length of garden hose. With the vehicle running, take your instrument and place it very closely at one end of your valve cover and the other end to your ear and slowly move to the other end of the cover listening for the "tick". Now move to the other cover and repeat the process. If in fact this is where your sound is coming from it will be very obvious when you find it. If there is no noticeable change in the sounds at the covers then begin to inspect the exhaust system starting at the manifold coming off of the engine. Hope this info helps to solve your problem!
