SOURCE: How do I change the temperature sensor under the

It’s located on the driver’s side of the engine on top /side of the head.. midway.. I don’t think you need to remove the engine cover to see it.. if it is the correct one it will have a dark green top.. the bad version has a black top… but they can all go out to lunch on you if old enough.

To replace.. make sure the car is cool..
You need a hood tool.. or small pair of pliers to remove the retaining clip that holds it in place.
Place a rag under and around it to catch the coolant.. you will lose less than a half a cup.. if that.

Pull the retaining clip back toward you.. try not to drop it.. (another good reason for the rag)

Wiggle the sensor.. pop it out.. and replace with the new green top one make sure you clean the area well.. and when you reinstall the new one that the c clip goes back on straight or it will leak.

Once you see the part out of the box.. you will understand how it works

Start the car.. check for leaks.. run until warm with the heater on.. top up the coolant overflow bottle with distilled water.. (if more than a half a cup.. you should mix the proper anti freeze and distilled water and then top up with that)

Good luck

SOURCE: replacement of coolant temperature sensor

located under intake in water crossover pipe, you can access the sensor by removing intake chamber box, then pcv hose connected to the block, the connector is orangeish 2pin,use a 19mmdeep socket on a 3/8 ratchet to get it loose, make sure engine is cool, also make sure there is a new brass washer with your new sensor, sometimes the old washer comes off when removing the sensor, sometimes it sticks to the pipe, some coolant will escape so make sure to top it off

Coolant temperature sensor location on 97 ford expedition

I believe they are located in the intake manifold somewhere. Make sure the one that tells the computer the coolant temp is ACTUALLY giving out the correct temperature. I had a bad one one time in a 1993 Ford F-150, 5.8L....... no check engine light came on but hard to start. The bad sensor was telling the computer it was 32 degrees F when it was almost 80 degrees outside.!!
Garbage in=Garbage out.

Here is a video link from Youtube. There are 2 sensors, 1 for the guage and the other tells the on-board computer how hot/cold the coolant is. The one for the guage has 1-wire and the other one has 2 wires.
Hope this helps, ask more if you need to. What kind of problem are you having? No heat inside? Guage needle not getting into the normal area?

Been driving a 2005 Chevy Colorado Z71 3500 Vortec Inline 5 for 4 years. My check engine light started popping on. the code told me the coolant temperature sensor was goin out. Took it to the shop and they...

its normal enough, but the coolant temp., sensor should have been replaced as well, was this done ? this sensor is critical to engine performance, air/ fuel mixture & idle, while engine warms up, it may also turn on rad fans, all the engine sensors work together to make sure engine performs as required. it doesn't just take temperature.

97 chevy malibu 3100 engine, what should the voltage be to the coolant tempture sendor be?

The ECT is a two wire sensor, a 5-volt reference signal is sent to the sensor and the signal return is based upon the change in the measured resistance due to temperature. The coorect way to test this sensor is by OHMs, not voltage. See the chart below.
