Some people wire trailer plugs differently. If the plug is not wired differently than yours, make sure the tow ball is clean. No rust. That's where the trailer gets its ground from. Usually they will work if thats the case, but not right. I can't remember what the wire colors are right now. Go to etrailer and look up the diagram.

I would do this: Using a multimeter I would test the original wires to see which one is the "hot". Do this by touching the "red" lead of the meter to each of the wires one at a time and the "black" lead to ground. Next touch one of the the wires on the replacement part to the "hot" on the battery and the other to ground to see if it makes any difference which way they are connected. After finding the hot and connecting the part correctly you still blow a fuse then I would say you have a hot wire that is grounding somewhere between the connection and the fuse block. If this is the case then this is why the original part failed.

Radio wires differ from the speaker to the radio

This is the most common problem with self installs. The best thing to do is to get the car radio installation plug,it will plug into the factory plug for your factory radio and will give you a color coded pigtail to wire into that usually matches up perfectly with new aftermarket car radios. If the wires are already cut then you best bet is to extend the wires so that they are easy to work with hookup the power, ground, antenna and try dirrerent combos to isolate each speaker and label the wires accordingly.

You seem to have a handle on the problem .A wiring diagram will not indicate the location of the aux circuits. Any non original looking wiring should be disconnected from it's connecting point ie; tail lights to aux lights are usually a short distance from original wiring. CB radios are two core non original and easily from battery or fuse box. Don't go mad on the disconnect but take a long look at whats not the original fitment. let's know how you get on and the blowing fuses thing . Good luck
