Question about 1984 Mercedes-Benz Mercedes Benz 300 Class
More often than not when I try to start my 84 300 turbo diesel it wont crank and I have to pop the hood and jump out the ignition from under there and then it cranks just fine, i have to start the car from under the hood. this gets VERY old VERY fast. also it has a very rough idle. And just recently my glow plug light has not been coming on.Some times the car cranks on its own and the glow plug light comes on but it's like the car has a mind of it's own.also after I had a pressurized oil line changed, the gas and engine temp guages jump and my seatbelt light keeps flashing on and off causing those 2 gauges to flutter VERY fast. help would be greatly appreciated. THANKS!!!!
Sounds like a bad ignition switch. If your car has a lot of miles (200k miles is pretty common), then it's likely.
Once something breaks loose in the ignition switch, well basically you got lil pieces of metal floating around making contact where they shouldn't, which create the scenerios you're talking about.
The glow plug light may or may not be related. But you won't know til you get that first problem fixed.
If the rough idle eventually smooths up after it warms up, then yes, you probably need to look at the glow plugs and/or glow plug relay.
