SOURCE: Leaking water from top of motor

Tale the truck to a shop and have the cooling system pressurized to see where the coolant is coming from is my advice. They do leak at the heater hose above the passenger side rear most cylinder, remember water is clear and coolant is green or yellow or reddish colored and feels slimy to the touch, water is of course clear..

Coolant level keeps getting very low?

Check the upper intake gasket, you may have a leaking gasket. Check the bottom of water pump and see if it is leaking, if so pump needs replaced. The seal within the water pump sometimes goes bad and leaks out seep hole on water pump bottom. Make these checks with engine off!!! God-Bless!

Does back pressure have anything to do with vacuum in a 1989 ford f150 4.9 litre efi engine

Hi, Sounds like you have an air intake leak. Most likely a bad gasket on the manifold to the engine block. Replace with new one. Good luck.

I have a 2000 Escalade and it's leaking a bit of antifreeze and I can't visually see where it's coming from but seems to be from the front end of the motor. It's not the radiator or any of the main v

I would take a look at the water pump. There is a weep hole on the water pump to indicate if the seals are going bad inside the water pump. This hole is located on the top of the water pump where the pulley mounts to it. If this is not the problem, then it could be a number of other problems.

I would check the following items, which I have listed in sequence of cost to repair.

1. check hoses and clamps, if leaking you should see areas that have build up of dried antifreeze.
2. check thermostat housing on top of intake where upper radiator hose connects to engine.
3. verify radiator is not leaking
4. intake gasket leaking
5. head gasket leaking

When you turn the key on excessive fuel flows into the air intake. its a 1989 6 cylinder 3.1 fuel injected

You could have either an injector that is stuck open or a fuel pressure regulator that has developed a leak. A leaky injector will usually only leak fuel into one cylinder as it is located just above the intake valve in the lower part of the intake while a leaky fuel pressure regulator will leak fuel into the front end of the intake manifold [behind the throttle plates] and the fuel will acuumulate throughout the upper intake plenum. When a fuel pressure regulator develops a leak the fuel that is escaping from it flows through the small 1/8" diameter plastic vacuum line which goes from the top of the regulator to the intake manifold. Even a trace of fuel in this line means the regulator is bad. I've seen both leak items leak but probably replace 10 regulators leak for every one injector. Good luck, hope you find your problem!

WHAT IS A PLENUM

a plenum is the top part of the intake manifold, modern fuel injected cars and trucks (gas engiones) have a upper and lower intake manifold, the upper section is called the plenum.

Drilled hole in intake manifold at upper radiator outlet

Did the bolt break off flush with the top of the hole? or if you remove the cover is some bolt sticking up? if there is try and use vice grips to get ahold if the bolts if it is flush then drill the bolt out and re-tap the hole. Way cheaper and likely less work too...

I have an 1989 F150 with the EFI 5.0L engine with a high idle problem. In park it idles between 1500-2000rpm. In drive, it drops to 1000-1500. I've replaced the idle sensor and that didn't help. What else...

Your intake manifold has a leak. Check all the hose connections to see if you have a hose off.
Disconnect the EGR hose and temporarily plug. If it helps it is the EGR.
Take a spray bottle of water and spray around the intake manifold while the engine is running. When you find the leak it will draw in the water and stall the engine or at least affect idle.
Another part is the TPS, throttle position sensor which is on the drivers side and about the size of a cigarette lighter. It has 2 screws and 1 electric plug.
