SOURCE: replacement bulbs on dash panels

You can't unless you have the right expensive tools. Bring it to you're local car shop and have them replace it. Might be a little expensive though.

SOURCE: Honda Accord Map Light bulb

the cover is removed straight down, slowly working it with a thin tool or butter knife. WD40 to front and rear edge (there's nothing medial or lateral). The cover has 2 Y clips on each side, one about half way, and one that clips straight off of the hinge post. There are no "tabs". It will eventually unclip straight down. Then can replace with a DE3175 LED bulb (V-LEDs.com)

SOURCE: My honda ridgeline tail light

Check the way you have installed the bulb.if it is a combination stop/tail light. It really only goes in one way as the pins are offset, however it can be forced.also check the wiring plug as it may have a dry joint in the wiring

Is there a way to brighten the the area where the mileage is shown

Instrument lights that have old-fashioned bulbs to provide the illumination can and do become tired, the filaments break or the bulbs become blackened and the light goes out or grows increasingly dim.

The instrument illumination used to be something that could be replaced quite easily by simply reaching behind the dash and removing the light. Those days are far-off and mostly the instrument panel must be removed to provide access which isn't often a very easy task so once the panel is removed it is a good idea to replace all the bulbs. The last one I did needed 14 bulbs.

Manufacturers often used bulb and bulbholder assemblies but I have found ordinary bulbs can be fitted with some fiddling around...

Yes, there is a replaceable bulb. If you can't reach up behind the dash to remove the bulb, you will have to remove the instrument panel assembly.

Why would only 1/2 of the instrument panel light up? And how can I fix it to light up

Its just some bunt out bulbs. Depending on the year of your car, you either can just reach behind the dash and replace the bulbs, or more likely the instrument cluster will need to be removed and the bulbs replaced. A general rule of thumb on this type of repair, do em all and save another headache later. Like the old saying goes, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Consult a repair manual for proper removal instructions of the instrument cluster.

Replacing dash lights

You may be able to reach the bulbs from the back of the instrument panel, you will need to remove any lower panels that block access, if they can't be removed from the back then you will have to R&R the instrument cluster assy and any other unit that has defective bulbs, make sure you get the correct repacement bulbs, they may look the same but have diffwerent luminosity ratings, wrong bulb will be to dim or to bright and hot burning, this can damage the bulb socket, check your owners manual for more info.
