Question about 2002 Ford Escape

02 escape 4x4 3.0L TRANS OVERDRIVE

Ihave an 02 escape 3.0l auto power 4wd xl. while driving on interstate at 65mph in cc, I slowed for work zone then hit resume, engine tached to 5g"s and stayed at the same speed.then the engine started to rattle.I checked it and found #4 rod bearing spun,so I rebuilt the engine and it is running fine. I had the local trans expert check the trans, he said it was ok,but I still have a problem. When accelerating in passing gear the trans seems to stall while the engine tachs higher than normal (about 4 g's) Is it slipping if so is it O.D. or is the solenoid failing? What would you recommend?

I would recommend taking it to another tranny shop. Because if the tach is higher than normal then more than likely its slipping. Eather way what ever it is. I wouldnt wait till the last min, because it could be just the tranny pump and if so then it can be saved before it wrecks havoc on the tranny.

2004 Ford Sportrac having problems with trans OD flashing on and off and sticking in gear?

When the Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) isn't engaging or locks in engagement the light flashes a warning...The TCC solenoid may stick due to dirty transmission fluid...If the Check Engine Light
(CEL) is not lit have your transmission fluid changed...If it is lit the code is probably pointing at a defective TCC, Computer (PCM) or the clutch itself... you can take the vehicle to an auto parts store and have them read and define the trouble code for free...saailer

Check transmission comes on after driving over 65mph for a period of time (15 minutes or so).

You didn't indicate the year of the car, but you can get the trouble codes by having a scan done at Auto Zone or Advance Auto, and the codes will identify where the problem is.

When does the overdirve need to be turned on

Usually the overdrive should just be left on. It should only come into play when you are at high speeds above 50mph. This is essentially your "5th Gear" and should increase fuel economy. If you leave the overdrive "OFF" on the highway your engine RPM will be higher causing the fuel economy to suffer.

My subaru legacy auto losses its overdrive and

could be a TCU fault (trans ecu) or a bad speed sensor (there are 2) on the trans.

Driving down interstate changing lanes when into passing gear and would not come out. took to auto zone computer gave this error tcc commanded on an the ECM detected the TCC slip speed higher than limits...

It is not stuck in passing gear, it is defaulted to 2nd gear because the trans is detecting a problem. Hopefully it is just one of the solenoids, but unless you have experience with the trans I would not recommend trying to fix it. I also would not take it to the dealer, they will try to sell you a trans when all my may need is a solenoid. Ask around for a shop the specializes in transmissions, but is also honest. It will take someone who knows what they are doing to do this.

Hope you find someone.

2005 Ford Escape XLT 4WD - Overdrive light blinking...

The overdrive light blinking means that a fault code has been stored in the computer, this can be for many different reasons. The car isn't actually turning overdrive on and off, it is just a way to alert you of a problem. Getting the computer scanned will provide a fault code eg. P(XXXX) if you can get this code I can help you further. -Jared
