SOURCE: bright lights won't work

I too had the same exact problem on my 1999 Cavalier. I replaced the lamps, then the DLR,and then looked at the harness under the battery box.(It appeared to look ok and didn't have any corrosion on it I could see). I then ordered a new turn signal/high beam switch that's on the steering column. I replaced the switch and still had the same problem. Not wanting to let this defeat me I started tracing the wires from the high beam lamps back. When I got back to the wiring harness under the battery box I noticed that just one of the wires had a little corossion on it. Guess what? it turned out that was the high beam wire and it was coroded through and not making the circuit complete. I cut the wire at the coroded spot, restripped both ends and twisted them together. At that point I tried all the lights and they worked perfectly. I then soldered and shrink wraped the repaired wire. (Finally end of problem) My suggestion,Really look closely at that wiring harness. If you have to use a magnifiying glass do so. This was a really frustrating problem that I finally solved and I hope this can help others with the same problem.

SOURCE: dim lights work. bright

Whether all other lights work fine?

Please check the battery output voltage.

I do not think it as an switch issue.

99 neon running tail lights do not work but tail lights work when brakes are applied....help

what you are seeing is the bright filament on the bulb working,
the tail light bulbs have two filaments in each bulb, one is dim and one is bright, the bright one is to the brake and turn signals, that way when you step on the brake with the tail lights on the same lens light up brighter to warn drivers behind you..
you need to check the fuses in the car for tail lights first, see if your plate light is on that will tell you the bulbs are just blown

Check the battery connections. If they are dirty, corroded, the lights will work, but there won't be enough connection to crank. Also, if the battery is getting old, it could be going out as well.
Clean the battery terminals with a batt terminal brush- also clean the cable ends.
Charge or jump start your car and run for a while.

Over night the battery is dead

Put a 12v test light between the positive terminal and the battery cable. If the light is bright the draw is to much.A dim light is fine.if the light is bright, plug one fuse at a time until light dims.DO NOT cause a draw by leaving a door open etc while testing.DO NOT try and start the car or turn the key on during this test.Once you have found the fuse that causes the most draw,if you want to save $ you can just pull this fuse overnight or wire that circuit with a relay to unpower it when the vehicle is switched off.

1999 dodge neon

there is a fuse for the cruise control in the fuse box under the hood located right behind the battery. if the fuse is fine, then one of the cruise control components might be bad.

as for the headlight, you might need a new headlight socket. they are easy to replace and the replacement sockets can even be bought at walmart.
if the socket doesnt fix your problem, then you might need a new bright light switch
