SOURCE: There was coin stuck in

  • This answer can be a yes or a no.

  • The coin itself getting stuck can be removed and things should be fine. However having the coin grind on them gears in there for an extended time could rough them teeth up real good. A piece could have chipped on the shifter you could not see with the bare eye. In this case they may see this as both a safety and a warranty issue.

  • In other words the gears or shifter may work "acceptable" for now but if they just pull the coin out and send you on your way and then one of the gears locks up or won't engage because of the cable they might be on the line for some of the labor for not doing the for sure thing in the first place.

  • One thing when it comes to automotive repair is that there is no room for error. Vehicles go 60 - 70 - 80 miles and hours and need to function as flawlessly as possible.

  • You might call them up and ask to see your old gear shifter and the parts they replaced. They should not have replaced it "just cause" there would have to be a safety issue behind it. The coin may have damaged something but it is always in your best interest to demand a thorough walk through of what they did, why they did it and show you the old parts and explain why they were no longer good. I recommend in person. Some shops and dealerships don't have the sense of a billy goat and just replace. It's your money... demand answers.

  • Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa.

Regards, Tony

There is a possibility there is a problem with the release bearing and also check the level of the oil transmission and the gear oil.

I have a 02 saturan l200 and the shift stick broke off from place where the gears are. I know it sounds confusing but I don't know the name of all the parts. Can anyone help me

Pull up on the shift lever boot to disengage from the console. The shift lever boot is rubber or leather or some other material !
Using a small screwdriver, remove the lever assembly retaining clip.
Remove the lever assembly ! I know this may sound complicated but it's real easy ! The shift leaver goes to a shift linkage that goes to the gear box !

Why won't my 1994 Subaru shift gears after replacing clutch?

There is not enough information as to the problem but if you cannot get 1st gear as it grates then thge clutch plate is in the wrong way around. If the problem is that there is no gear selection at all then when yopu replaced the gear lever and turret into the top of the box you have missed the cross slot that allows you to move the gear lever from side to side. If that is the case remove the turret and use a lever to align all the selector rails so that all the grooves line up in a straight line ,then refit the turret ensuring that the end of the gear lever goes into that slot.

On a 1992 Geo manual transmission, What positions do the two shift actuators need to be in to put the tranny in neutral

this m/t has very complex shift linkage.
you should by a real FSM for the car and see the many long pages on topic there,
the words just for the lever are here
  1. At the console, loosen the gear shift control housing nuts and the guide plate bolts.
  2. Adjust the guide plate by displacing it toward the front and rear so that the gear shift control lever is brought in the middle of the guide plate at the right angle.
  3. Once the guide plate is positioned properly, tighten the guide plate bolts to 7 ft. lbs. (9 Nm) and then the housing nuts to 4 ft. lbs. (5 Nm).
try a real fsm. you wont be sorry ! I promise !
not haynes, real geo books.

1973 vw beetle, new pressure plate installed. All positions reverse and gears 1-4 shift easily but position #1 is not 1st gear?

Ist check if the gear shift shaft coupling is loose or worn. - find it under the back seat in the centre tunnel. remove coverplate to see.
If this is OK then......

2ndly, the shift lever is bolted down with two bolts to the floor. Try slacking off the two bolts about half a turn (enough for you to take a medium to large screw driver and hammer to slide the bottom plate to the right while holding the g/lever to the left. Then take the hammer and knock the top plate to the left.**

**( I haven't done this adjustment for about 25 years since I was a VW mechanic so I hope the directions (right and left) may be the other way around.

It wont go into reverse

This is a relatively common problem on these new Chryslre 300s.The failure is in the shifter assembly itself and it will need to be replaced. But for now, to limp around, you can actually still shift the car, you just cannot use the shifter. You will need to remove the center console and find where the shift linkage attaches to the shifter assembly. Remove the linkage and you can manually shift until you replace the shifter assembly. Here is how to remove the center console:

Apply the parking brake.Turn the ignition switch to the On position, apply the service brakes and place the gear selector lever into the Neutral position.Turn the ignition switch to the Off position and release the service brakes.Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.Remove the mat (2) from the cubby bin at the front of the floor console.Open the lid of the console rear bin and remove the mat (3) from the rear bin.Remove the two screws (1) that secure the front of the console shifter bezel to the console.Using a trim stick unsnap the console bezel from the console.Remove the shifter bezel from around the gear selector lever.

techmecho_6.gifRemove the three 8 mm bolts (2) from the rear bin that secure the console to the floor panel transmission tunnel.Remove the two screws (3) that secure the front of the console to the instrument panel.Slide the console rearward far enough to access and disconnect the jumper wire connector (4) from the accessory power outlet on the underside of the console.Remove the floor console from the vehicle.-------------- Thankyou.
