Question about 1998 Ford Explorer

1 Answer

1998 Ford Explorer Sport. Humming from under the hood, I think.

When my wife or I drive her '98 Ford Explorer Sport there is eventually a loud humming from what "seems to be" the front passanger side. The humming will only stop if I/she steps on the gas. If parking or at a red light/stop sign the engine stalls. When mechanics look at the car, the car does not make the sound... of course. I've considered bad water pump, fuel injectors, problems due to fuel filter (changing that tomorrow), air intake yadda yadda yadda. About to move to AZ from OR on 2/2. Immediate help would be VERY much appreciated.

98 ford taurus makes a humming sound under the hud when driving

ford taurus ? think this model is similar to out ford mondeo except with a bigger engine version available as most of ours are diesel ,really would need to hear and drive the car to know for sure ,one humming noise to one person can mean screaming noise to another so i would advise you ask a local mechanic to have a drive and he will tell you straight away what it is ,sorry but ?? anyway here is a bit of english humour for you to enjoy

Loud humming and clicking noise!

You could try looking at the idler pulleys or the air conditioner these 2 things can cause a noise like that, If you have to take the fan belt off make sure you draw a diagram so you know which way it goes, Sometimes you need to do this so you can spin the pulleys by hand to determin if it is one of them.

The left front wheel area is shaking violentely and cusing a loud humming noise at all speeds.

First: STOP DRIVING THIS CAR!. The wheel may lock up or fall off!!!!!
Next: Have it checked out by a mechanic.
It can be a number of things like: bad wheel bearing, loose lug nuts, brake system faulty, rotor really warped. If I was to pick one I would say your front wheel bearing is shot.

1998 Ford Mondeo GLX, loud humming sound, front driver side.

Most likely it's a wheel bearing going out.., If you turn to the right, or the left when driving the noise will change pitch. Been there done that.....
