SOURCE: 2002 chev impala got dead battery, replaced

Hi,

Thank you for contacting fixya.com.

The Chevrolet Impala security system relies on a sensor that detects the rotation of the lock cylinder, which can be performed successfully only by the proper key. The sensor can wear out over time and fail to submit a stable signal based on cylinder rotation, resulting in the inability to start the Impala. Replacing the sensor typically resolves the starting issue.
Vehicle anti-theft (VAT) system is not getting proper reading from the ignition switch. Try having the system relearn your codes. This procedure takes about 30 to 40 minutes.
Attempt to start the car. If it does not start, or dies very quickly after it started, then leave the key in the ignition in the "ON" position and wait 10 minutes. Make sure the security light is flashing. After 10 minutes the security light will stop flashing and either turn off or stay on steadily. When it does, then turn the ignition off, wait 20 seconds and attempt to restart the car.

Repeat this procedure three times in quick succession without removing the key from the ignition.

Start the car following the third 10-minute waiting period. The car should start and stay on. If it stays running, then the codes have been relearned and the problem is solved. If the car still does not start then you may need to have all or part of the pass lock system replaced.

Also replacing the ignition switch may cure the problem.

Please get back to us if you have further query else please accept the suggestion.

2002 impala the audio controls on the steering wheel stopped working

it could be your clockspring; it carries multiple electrical signals to and from the steering wheel (audio controls, horn, airbag). the wheel has to be removed to gain access to it for replacement, but it can be tested without removal. the easiest way to test it is with a diagnostic tool

Dash and radio lights don't work at night. They are on during the day. 2003 Chev Impala. Have checked all the fuses.

The same thing happens on my 2003 Impala. I found that my dimmer switch has an intermittent failure where sometimes the dash lights go out even with the headlights on.
If I wiggle the dimmer just right, the dash, radio, steering wheel, door locks, and every other light comes on (when the headlights are on). My fix was to mount my Garmin on the steering column in front of the speedometer so when the lights go out I know how fast I'm going. A replacement dimmer (or bypassing the current one and adding a resistor) should take care of it.

My girlfriend just had the same thing happen in her 01 Impala. New radio and 150 dollar radio wire harness. If you dont fix it, you'll keep draining the battery till it's broken too.

SEcurity light came and car wouldnt start

I'm having the same issue and had the ignition replaced even thought I told the dealerhsip that I read this will not help. I did some reasearch and found that a bypass system is the best way to go. I called around to local places that do installation of radios, remote start ..stuff like that and they can install a bypass system for $120.00. I aksed him is this will solve the problem and he says he does it all that time and it works well. You may want to look into that...
