Could be the lock cylinder, the rod going down to the switch, or the switch. There is a gear and link that pushes the rod.
You can search for GM lock on YouTube for a video illustration.

SOURCE: 1992 Ford F-150 Ignition lock switch

Do you have a tilt wheel? If so you're only half the way there. The upper actuator is broken. And you got to get into the column further. As for the trick to get the cylinder in. Don't matter if you got a tilt or fixed wheel. Go to the top side of the column. About 2/3 the way down it you'll find the Ign Switch. A rod will be coming out of the top going towards the wheel area. Push it into the switch till the inst panel lights come on. That means that the Ign switch is in the 'ON' sopition. IE all the dash panel lights come on. There is a key on the tumbler that matches to a key in the ign gear. Than just incert the tumbler into the gear and turn it to lock it in.
If you got a non-tilt wheel then it sounds like the bottom of the tumbler is broken off and is still in the gear. If so do the same as above with the Ign Switch. That will align the key so you can take the broken part out and put the new Ign tumbler in.

I had the same issue. I took it to a local kia dealer and they had to replace the the entire steering shaft because it was binding. After a $350 fix it works fine. Must be a common problem with the van because they knew what the problem was before i could even explain all the details and before they looked at the van period.

Ignition will not turn after i removed the plastic around steering wheel on my chevy trailblazer 2005

Take the plastic back off and inspect the ignition area for a loose connection. Try to start the vehicle with the plastic off first, then with it back on once you identify the issue.

What is service p1614

that code is for NATS system issue (nissan imobilizer). have you used unregistered key in the ignition?? cant do that. your keys need to be all registered to the vehicle. if you are surelly using keys that are registered than you may have an issue with other component in the NATS system such as antenna or amplifier, which is part of the antenna assembly. Have you done any steering column repair to the vehicle?? because the antenna is located just inside of the steering wheel comunm cover. its right around the ignition cylinder, where you insert your key to start the vehicle. That part may be an issue. does the vehicle start or does it just crank and not start??

1998 328i ignition key won't turn to crank the engine. Only the miles show. Also the steering wheel is locked. Help.

Sometimes the ignition switch can wear out to where you cannot turn it anymore. And you cannot turn the steering wheel without the ignition turned on. The first thing I would do it wiggle the steering wheel back and forth while turning the ignition. If this does not work you will have to replace your ignition switch.

Noise when i turn left

HI, these sysmtoms can be caused by many issues that may be present within this vehicles front steering rack. i will list some trouble areas that you should inspect. you will find the issue in one or all of these areas stated below.

Inspection List--

1. Check the Steering gear on the power steering. this is a known problem area and can cause the sounds you are experiencing at this time. this gear may be worn.

2. Next, you will need to inspect the CV Half-shaft(remanufactured) CCT. Check this device and see if it is dry or damaged or worn. if the actual CV boot has slipped off or it is busted, it will allow the joint to dry up, in return, causing major damage that will lead to very loud sounds.

3. I would also inspect the Front wheel bearings as well. inspect for worn, dry or damaged bearing assembly. replace if damage is noticeable.

Please rate and have a great day:)

Ignition key won't turn to start; will turn to accessory

Pressure on the side of the tires from the curb caused the steering wheel lock to not release. Wrestling the steering wheel got the tension off the wheel and allowed the key to turn. Problem solved
