SOURCE: My 2004 Jaguar xj8 will not release both latches

If your bonnet will not release, there is a rubber plug inside fender located up in
the wheel well under the latch. Remove the plug, stick a screwdriver up and pry the latch
back. The hood / bonnet will open.

Answering a question

The sensor for the latch may be shorted or water is in the sensor, the sensor is most likely attached to the hood latch and to verify that just look for wiring and the latch and follow it to the sensor for the hood latch.

Stuck transmission on 2004 jaguar X type

This is because you must depress the brake to energize a solenoid to release the shifter, you must get the hood open. sometimes if you have someone push down on the hood as you pull the lever it will open. if not remove the air dam under the bumper and try to move the latches manually by reaching up with something long. Good luck.

Hood latches do not lock hood pops up

If you locate the cable running between the two catches (it is engine side just under the metalwork across the front of the car ) You will most likely find that the plastic retaining clips are broken at one or both ends. With a bit of messing around you can get the hood to latch at least until you get replacement cables fitted.
