Easy approach is turn the car over and watch the water pump. If the belt is not turning the water pump then the pump is bad fro sure. This is not the end all but a sure sign it is bad. Make sure the belt tension is good as well. Other than that you will have to pull the pump out to make sure it is not seized in any way. Not really that difficult of a job if you do dig into it.

I think you may have bigger problems like a
bad head gasket if it over heats

What sort of shop do you use that doesn't properly
address ALL you vehicle issues & at least give you
some options or tell you what is wrong

Sounds like you got a new radiator & sent on your way
with the same problems you came in with

SOURCE: overheating engine

Was the thermostat put in backwards? I know this is a silly question, but I've seen it happen. The water pump will fight it if it is. Another thing are the coolant passages, are they flushed out? Also, if that fan clutch is the original one, I would go ahead and replace that as insurance against the water pump breaking.

My 1998 Mitsubishi eclipse GST was overheating I changed out the thermostat and still continues to overheat why?

You have to have a thermostat in the system. Have a compression test done to check for head gasket or cracked head/s. Check the flow rate of the radiator ( blocked cores) check the condition of the cooling fins on the radiator. Check the radiator cap. Check if the fan is working when hot.. If you have a viscous fan hub on the fan then replace it . run the fault codes to check for air/fuel problems . Check for load and speed conditions as high speed when fully loaded will cause your problem . Check that it is actually engaging over drive and not over reving the engine.

I have a 2001 eclipse 3.0. my bf changed the thermostat last oct or so.he also just changed the valve cover gasket for me bc mine was leaking. now it wants to run hot. i have checked the fluids and its...

There are several possible causes for it running hot.
  1. Loose drive belt - loose or worn drive belt would slip and cause the water pump to turn slower than it should
  2. Bad bearing in water pump - accompanied by occasional screeching and possible leaking
  3. Bad thermostat - this could be the case if you've used a radiator sealant that could cause the thermostat to stick
  4. Possible bad head gasket - this would produce white smoke from the tailpipe and bubbling of the auto transmission fluid

How i can replace the thermostat of 2001 eclipse

The thermostat is located on the engine block, follow the upper radiator hose from the radiator to the engine thermostat is there. When you replace thermostat either it has a gasket or maybe o-ring or both, make sure you replace them also. Scrape the old gasket off completely or when you install the new one it will leak. Also have antifreeze so what coolant you loose you can replace or flush radiator with a radiator flush made by prestone or other manufacturer, and follow instructions on it.If hoses look bad, have cracks good time to replace also. take them with you when you go to autoparts so you can get the right one.
