Harsh noise at startup

Harsh (grinding) noise when starting engine cold, that quickly goes away. Does not happen if engine has been on for a few minutes. Is it the oil pump?

This may be caused due to low trany oil, check the level with engine warm and running and on level surface, these tranys are none for being bad, you may what to try a bg trany flush this may help, look up on the web about bg trany flushes, we use this machine and it does wonders, this helps alot but cant make a miracle happen, but ita helped alot of people with niose and not shifting or slipping its a 50/50 shot, hope this helps you.

SOURCE: I have a 2002 Chrysler

This could only be a couple of things, either you have a lash adjuster that is sticking, or a bad crankshaft bearing. I would recommend that you run a thinner weight oil, like a 10w30. I would recommend that you change your oil and substitute a quart of oil for a can of Seafoam. The Seafoam will clean your engine, and will not hurt the oil, or to run it until your next oil change. I would also recommend that you use a good oil filter, like a Fram extra guard that has a check valve in it which will not lose oil pressure overnight.

Engine noise when starts

Sounds like you need to run a thinner oil maybe. The oil is not pressurizing the engine components quickly and you hear was is called engine tappets. The rockers on some cars have what are called hydraulic lifters. They fill with oil after startup and then the sound goes away. You may think about having the lifters replaced soon, which are not too expensive. Be sure your vehicle has hydraulic lifters also. If your mechanic is any good he will know if it does or not. He maybe waiting for it to cause engine damage also, and knowing you will return to him to have it repaired also. Be careful.

Sounds like something with bad bearings. Check in the area of air conditioner compressor or power steering and yes water pump.even the belt tightener will do that.

Harsh, grinding engine noise at cold startup. This noise does not happen when engine is warm.

Grinding not good. Check all of your fluids. Mainly your tranny and engine oil.

Chevy Aveo grinding noise from accelerator when A/C is on

It will be the ac compressor clutch that slipping when after it has been activated/engaged. This happens when the engine is winding up the compressor clutch is not engaging strong enough and start slipping. However as the engine rpm stabilize on the ac compressor has caught up (same rpm) no slipping occur and no noise. Was the clutch mechanism replaced with the compressor replacement? (however it need to be checked/repaired).

Engine knocks on cold startup

Sorry for this, but usually if the engine knocks on cold start then goes away shortly, it's a sign of a rod bearing. This is just one explanation but in any case it needs checked QUICKLY! This isn't a normal sound and can only lead to bad things if not fixed.

Cherokee intermitant grinding noise in neutral

Is it when the engine first starts? It sounds like to me that the starter is getting stuck in the fly wheel. what happens is when you go to start it, the solenoid push's the gear out and spins the gear almost one full action, the grinding noise could be the starter staying engaged after the motor has starter but quickly comes out of it after driving out of it. just a thought.
