Need to know mdel and year. On my 1998 M3, the door switch is actually in the latch. If you look at the latch part on the body (not on the door) you will see a small switch that is engaged when the door closes. Some of the switches are not availible or rediculously expensive. Quick fix is to put a few layers of electrical tape over the switch to allow it to be pushed in further when the door is closed. Hope that helps

Interior lighs coming on by themselves

Sounds like a faulty button on one of the doors that turn these lights on when door is opened. It just makes a complete circuit by closing the ground wire to the body. Could be that one of the ground wires came off the button and is grounding and completing the circuit and turning the lights on.

After locking my car, the interior lights dim and go out as usual and then come back on and the doors will keep locking themselves.

The problem is in the keypad assembly. It causes the interior lights to come on and off and can drain the battery. This also causes the doors to lock and unlock without driver input. The keypads on this model usually go out if someone is playing with it or trying to discover the unlock combination. If you don't need to use the keypad for entry or access to the trunk you can disconnect the keypad and you won't experience the above mentioned problems.

Interior lights come on and fade off by themselves killing the batt on a 1999 mercury grand marquis

Mine started doing the same thing recently.......all I could find so far on the internet is something called a "light control module".......maybe this could be the problem?

The lights will go off sometime during the next four hours. This car does not have the automatic lights. One night they came on by themselves.

interior lights or exterior

most interior light concerns like yours are due to a door ajar switch issue

exterior lights could be something a little more serious

Just repaced the battery today, interior lights won't go off

Most likely a sticky door switch. Spray the heck out of all the switches and inside the doors themselves with WD-40. You may have to open and close the doors multiple times to get the lights to out.
