What causes radiator to lose water with no visible leaks?

Doesn't sound good. If you have no leaks, you most likely have a bad headgasket or cracked block. Have you ran it with engine light on, or temp gauge high?if its a small leak, liquid glass or something like it can seal it. Check with local auto supply.

Why is my radiator getting hot? the pump is working, the water is circulating , thermostat seems to be working also!

Some possible causes of the high coolant temp...........

1. The radiator fans are not kicking in when the temp rises.

2. The water pump may be working but if the impeller blades have corroded badly the performance of the water pump will be very poor. (Some water pumps used by some manufacturers have plastic impeller blades and over time these blades will break apart).

3. The thermostat is stuck partly open and is retarding 100% coolant flow through the radiator.

4. You have a partial blockage in the cooling system which is retarding coolant flow. This may be in the radiator or in the cooling passages in the engine.

5. Check if you have bubbles in the radiator. Wait for the engine to cool and start the engine. Take off the cap and wait for the thermostat to open and for the hot water to begin flowing through the top hose into the radiator. Then watch for any bubbles appearing in the coolant. If there are bubbles continuously it is an indication of a combustion leak into the cooling system and that will cause overheating until the problem is fixed. In that event have a leak down test carried out on each cylinder to confirm that the combustion is leaking into the cooling system..

Have the problem, whatever the cause, investigated and fixed. Allowing the engine to run hot will cause expensive engine damage many times what it will cost you to fix the cooling issue you have now.

By the way, blowing out a coolant hose is not a fault. It is due to owner negligence in not replacing the top and bottom radiator hoses every 6-7 years because over time the hoses deteriorate like many items in a vehicle that require routine maintenance and replacement due to wear, use and time.

How do i fix a heater in a 91 jeep cherokee laredo?

fails on high, need this first.....@!!!!

if it fails on high then you hot wire the blower,

does the blower work with 12vdc applied to it, unpugged?

very old car.

use to get the FSM data. and schematics.

got 12v below.

the switch bypasses the resistor block on high, so high is first

use a 10 buck DMM volt meter at walfart.

got 12v to the blower?

got 0v on that blower bottom pin?

if yes, the blower is dead

if not, then the fuse is blown, (use a voltmeter) or the switch left is bad. (or any wire bad end to end)

to check a fuse, check both sides key on, blower in, for 12vdc.

if once side is 0v, the Fuse is in fact bad. (acid test)

01 grand.prix ac fan switch only works on high. has a duel temp controller when you turn fan off the only way fan comes back on is to move the temp controller levers

When the Blower Motor Resistor (controls blower speeds) goes bad, the blower motor works only on HIGH SPEED. REPLACE IT.
BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR Removal & Installation
  • Disconnect negative battery cable.
  • Remove right lower instrument panel insulator panel.
  • Disconnect blower resistor connector located behind right side of dash.
  • Remove blower resistor screws and blower resistor.
To install, reverse removal procedure
Good Luck!! A HELPFUL - 4 THUMBS - rating for this solution would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for using FixYa!!

My air conditioner only work on high. It is clicking in on the low setting but will only work in high. We checked the two fuse panels and they are all good, what else could be the problem.

I own a 2006 HHR, had the same problem, I found water leaking onto the blower motor which caused the blower motor to fail.
I replaced the blower motor & blower motor resister. No problems. (I also fixed the water leak)
The blower motor isn't fun to replace, you have to use a box cutter knife to cut out the blower motor.
When you buy the new blower motor it will come with proper instuctions on how to cut the old one out and install the new motor.

Water temp gage sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't

Likely the temp sending unit has failed. They aren't very expensive. One on 4.0 engine is on the thermostat housing but don't know which engine you have.
Blower problem could be the resistor pack but not sure exactly where it is on yours, it is always on the heater box and generally looks like a flat fiber plate with four wires going to it.

Blower motor fan works on high setting only. I think resistor is bad but i can not locate where resistor goes. blower motor under passenger side glove box, cant seem to locate resistor. Also seen water on...

The resistors are located in the firewall just above the blower motor. they have a heavier gadge wire going to it. As for the water if it is not antifreeze then you have a leak in your cowl area by the lower windshield. I ran in to this problem on several gm cars such as yours it can be deficult to find good luck

The resistor will cost you 12 dollars at your local dealership. It's located under the passenger side dash and is very easy to replace. The resistor installed at the factory is defective and the new one from Mopar is the correct resistor. It would be worth you while to replace it now while you're working on the blower motor. The blower should still work on the high setting, even with a bad resistor but, replacing the resistor may fix the problem.

1997 cadillac eldorado running hot

Make sure you put in the correct temp thermostat. GM usually has 2. A low temp and a high temp. Most shops will give ya the high temp just because thats usually what the book calls for. you might want to try a low temp. Also, sometimes, when a car runs hot and everything has been repaired....well, almost might be the head gaskets. And those my friend are no easy task. But..somewhere to start. have your cooling system pressure tested. Only way to really know for sure. Oh..also make sure your fan is working!!!! You might have a faulty fan switch.
