    the outside handle

Me, personally, I go to the junkyard and take one apart, that way if you break a part, you can just start on a new one. There are a few small plastic parts you'll have to watch for, but basically you have to take off the door panel and the screws on the side, small hands are better to get into the tight areas. Mark the location of the rear glasss retaining bolt, then remove the bolt. Disconnect the outside connecting rod, check which rod you will be replacing. Disconnect the rod from the latch, remove the lock cylinder rod from the lock cylinder lever and so on.

I think there might of been some ice in the door or something. This has only been going on for about a week with the weather got real cold. This morning, @ 11 Degrees, I opened the door and I heard something trickle down the inside of the door, and now it seem to be working smoothly. go figure.

Go out and buy a copy of the Haynes auto repair manual for the 2006 Lincoln Zypher at your local auto supply shop, It will have complete disassembly instructions to get to the inside of the door to reach the door handle on the outside.

The door ajar light is on and won't go off even though all doors are closed also keeping the interior lights on. Is it the sensor and what can I do to fix it without taking it in?

Hello Jessielucas.

In each door latch (not the handles) there is a switch that activates the lights.
You can try to free the sticking switches by spraying a light oil in through the latch openings.
After spraying open and close the doors to try to loosen the sticking switch.
If it fails to free up you may need to remove the inner door panel to get to the inside of the latches.

1996 lincoln continental door latch does not lock/unlock door from inside or outide...door stays open basically...door latch has no response, unlock/lock switch works

I have the same problem.(Door will not stay closed) The door latch itself seems worn to the point where the linkage from both the actuator or door handle causes the latch to get stuck. I can free it with a screw driver applied where linkage connects to the latch, but it will stick again. Dealer wants over 300 with actuator. I am looking in junk yard for part. Remove door panel, somehow disconnect linkage from latch. It makes more sense to remove 3 hex or star screws 1st (27mm) so latch will be more accessible. My problem is the door latch, not anything else. Good luck

2006 Lincoln zephyr driver side door wont latch shut

try pulling the door handle a time or two, perhaps the latching mechanism is stuck in the latched position. sometimes pulling the handle and moving the latch with a screwdriver is needed. if this doesn't work then try lifting up on the door while shutting it, if this works then you need new door hinge bushings or new door hinges

Cannot open door from inside on front driverside

29 cent part my fix your problem. There is a nipple on the interior door lock lever that fits into a slot on the door handle lever. Look at passenger side to compare. The nipple is covered with a plastic spacer that may come off. The spacer keeps the lock nipple snug in the handle lever slot; pull the handle lever, it engages the lock lever, opening door. I bought a .29 cent aluminum spacer (#8x1/4 x 1/4) from Orchard hardware. Take needle nose pliers and slip the spacer on, then super glue. Unfortunately if lock lever (where riveted) is badly worn, then it may pivot upward instead of perpendicular to the door, thus defeating new spacer. But you may now be able to open door by pulling handle lever and lock lever at the same time. If you need to replace door handle, others on this site have suggested that you not replace metal frame that door handle is mounted on, but drill out rivets that hold door handle mount.
