SOURCE: Cooling fans on radiator will not run. Voltage in

Our problem was to establish if we had a line resistance from the fan relay to the thermo switch or an intermittent earth connection. Neither was the answer.
We managed to locate a circuit diagram off the web and discovered that the fan relay is controlled by the ECM. The ECM gets data from the thermo switch and that is a 5 volt circuit.
We found a guy about 2 miles from where we are in New Zealand who has an electronics workshop who has had this happen before and repairs ECM's for a living. He will get it monday to do that.
THe original problem was that the two hoses that come from the block to the heater blew simultaeniously. Couple of plastic connectors broke. Fixed those and tested all fine and two days later popped the pressure cap. At this point found the radiator fans had been intermittent and finally failed completely. Cant find any other damage so will thow in a new thermo stat an a repaired ECM anfd go from there.

Left hand driver side fan will not switch on and radiator boils over slightly. Air Con works great. Which relay in the fuse box should I check?

The fan circuit consists of a 30 amp fusible link and a relay in the engine compartment fuse/relay block and the thermo-switch on the little coolant manifold near the driver side end of the engine. The relay is the one on the far right side with the fusible link just below it. I would question the thermo-switch first. To test the circuit you can short the wire that goes to the thermo-switch to ground, with ignition switch on, and the fan should run. It not then check and relay. See the attached diagram for thermo-switch location. Do not take the part numbers on the diagram for gospel. I drew this up several years ago. I do not have my Camry so I cannot totally verify the above. I tried to post an answer several days ago but was not logged in at the time and they would not post it! 310bec86-8097-4e0b-9e5c-c6e4a17e69d4.jpg

check the 25 amp fuse that had fan rad on it . Check the fuses under the dash. Finally replace the fan switch in the head as it may not be communicating with the CPU to put power through the fan relay

Sounds like the radiator cooling fan isn't turning on, i would unplug the fan and run 2 jumper wires direct from the battery to the fan if the fan kicks on the fan is good, if it doesnt the fan needs to be replaced, if the fan checks out i would check the fan relay and make sure the relay is good, if the relay turns out to be ok then the coolant fan thermo switch is most likely the culprit for the fan not engaging when the engine reaches a certain temperature....

90 toyota cressida fan clutch

I just replaced the fan clutch on my F150. It doesn't take too long but I would recommend you get one of the Haynes type book for your cressida. The reason I say that is because of the method they use to attach the fan clutch to the engine. If you need the special tool to unloosen the large nut, you can get it from a good parts store. They charge you for it but refund the $$ when you bring it back

Heads up because the mane nut is usually a left handed thread

Hope this helpsGood luck

Fan motors

Check that the fans are still working .Check that the thermo switch is working.Check that you have power to the thermo switch. and if not check relay/supply of power.Unsure with your model but the thermo switches are usualy screwed into the radiator but could be mounted on the engine. You can check your fans by running a piece of wire from the positive terminal of the battery to the positive side/wire of the fans.As long as the fans are earthed as well they should work and if not then the fans will need to be replaced.
