The air bag light just came on one day last week and will not turn off now. On the other hand, the oil light never comes on, even when the oil is really low. Does this happen with anyone else?

Thanks for this input, also have 99 Accent - had no problem until I replaced the alternator & battery and then afterwards the air bag light came on and won't go off. I have disconnected the neg. terminal on battery to disable & re-enable the SRS system as per Haynes manual, no luck. Any further suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you

if you disconnect the battery the air bag light will go off for about 15 mins afteryou connect it again. ive searched the net and the only thing i found was to take it to the nearest hyundai dealer and have them look at it. for me it turned out to be the alternator. i replacedit today and i have to go back to the dealer so they can turn the light off

We had the same problem. Turned out to be the alternator failing. Replaced it and problem went away. That was nearly 13 months ago.

You need allen keys to do this. Remove the steering wheel and see that the connection is right.

Good luck.

1999 hyundai accent air bag went off by itself-car won't start

Short circuit (or false positive) in one of the passenger's AB sensors circuitry (may be in door-to-body bundled cable). Have it replaced, reset electronics (refer to Manual), replace AB and go.

most auto parts stores can check your alternator and battery while it is in car. look for national chain auto parts store and they will be happy to help you most for free

You have a short inthe wire harness . look for black spots in the wires from the Alt to the fuse panel . A oversized fuse can also cause this .

How do I turn the air bag light off ? It'a 2002 Hyundai accent... Thanks, Eddie

The light is on due to a faulty sensor or SRS module. Call your dealer and see how long the AIRBAG system is warranted.

Dealer scan tool is required to clear code. even if you fix the airbag error, the light will remain lit until it is cleared with scanner

99 hyundai sonata airbag light and reset.

There are no campaigns/recalls for the SRS (Supplemental Restraint System - Air Bag). However, there is a Service Bulleting regarding the wiring harness under the seats:
DESCRIPTION: Motion of the side impact air bag wiring harness and connector may result in illumination of the air bag warning light and one or both diagnostic codes listed below:
  • B1378: Driver side air bag (DSAB) resistance high.
  • B1382: Passenger side air bag (PSAB) resistance high.
This campaign provides a new side impact air bag wiring harness connector mounting procedure. VEHICLES AFFECTED:
  • Model : 1999 - 2002 SONATA vehicles
  • Production date range: - Produced through July 23, 2001
  • VIN range: - Produced through KMHWF35H82A526636
SPECIAL NOTES: The service procedure to be followed depends on the original wire harness routing under the seats. The required parts are different for each procedure.
  • For vehicles produced on or before June 30, 1999, use the procedure for Type 1 seats. Order service kit part number 88010-38A00.
  • For vehicles produced on or after July 1, 1999, use the procedure for Type 2 seats. Order service kit part number 88010-38B00.
If your vehicle doesn't fall within the production range, it's not affected.
I recommend you take the vehicle into a Hyundai Service Department and ask them if your vehicle has had this repair already. If it doesn't apply, pay the diagnostic fee to find out what the problem is. They will give you an estimate of repairs (parts, labor, tax, time-frame, etc.).. Then you'll know what the problem is.
