SOURCE: 1993 Nissan Altima Gearshifter or Transmission problem

Sounds like a neutral safety switch in problem #1 and a sticky or faulty solinoid in problem #2
The tranny has quite a few solinoids that are electronic which sometimes burn out or fail with high mileage.
Hope this helps

SOURCE: Transmission Fluid. Pontiac G6. 2006

The trannsmission is a sealed unit and there is no dipstick. Check to see if you have a leak. More than likely it sounds like your low on fluid at least a 1/2 to a whole quart. Since these are sealed units it should be taken to the dealership to have looked at. If there is not any leaks then I would add 1/2 qt of tranny fluid and try driving so see if it helped. If it helped a little but the same problems are still there add another 1/2 qt. If it doesnt solve the problem then your tranny needs to be looked at.

Here's another article discussing the car being stuck in one gear, which may give some complementary background information for you, specifying four probable causes of it:

This should help.

Good luck!

My car doesnt want to go

Have you checked your transmission fluid If its automatic there will be a dipstick under the hood. If it is standard you need to take the plug off the side of the transmission and top it up till fluid comes back out. Were there any puddles under your car lately Any sweet smells
