I have a 1986 4X4 Toyota Truck with a 22r engine. When the engine is started the engine will not idle. If you run high rpm's while sitting still (not on road) the engine levels out & when I let off the gas it shuts off. When it does try to run it has a rough idle. What would you suggest to do to correct this problem? Is it the EGR Valve or carburetor? Thank you!
P.S. Is the fuel filter supposed to be full or small amount in bottom of filter? I noticed that there is not much fuel in the fuel filter, but the engine will start.
Hello;
It sounds as if you have a couple of possible problems. First could be the fuel pump. If yoou disconnect the fuel line, put the line in a jar and crank the engine over, you should get a pint in 15 seconds or so. Also check the pressure, should have around 5 psi. Secondly, you may have a vacuum hose cracked, broken, or leaking. Check your hoses and also the carbureator for leaks.
Hope this helps;
Thanks;
Rich
