Factory remote start on 2004 Malibu Maxx stopped working

The factor-installed remote start stopped working this week on my 04 Malibu Maxx. The lights flash once, but it doesn't even try to crank. Anyone know of a fix? My wife parks in the garage and it's cold!!

Thanks!

I have this same issue on a 2005 Malibu. I don't know the problem, and neither does 3 different Chevy dealerships! A couple of things I can tell you to check are the fuses, and, a lot less obvious, two of those three dealerships said it's usually due to a loose fuel cap or a sticking hood latch. Sticking hood latch? I don't know about that one. Loose fuel cap I can understand. But the hood latch is shut tight. Just for giggles I had it lubed and checked, but it didn't fix anything. Also got a new key for another reason, and that didn't fix it.

So, while these things didn't help me with my Malibu, maybe it will help with yours?

I'm with you on the hood latch. Sounds like someone is guessing. I also have a check engine light. You? Thanks for trying.

Fixed!!! I had several problems with my wife's remote start/lock/unlock/trunk/ panic. First it stopped working, i replaced the battery to find out that the battery holder inside the remote had broken solder at two points. Went to Harbor Freight bought a solder gun for $5 and solder wire for about $2. Once home i soldered the points back together (first time i've ever soldered anything). Put the new battery in and it didn't work. I pulled the whole thing apart and took the circuit board and touched the contacts where the button would have pushed at with a piece of metal. They locked and unlocked the car. So i knew at that point that the rubber thing was jacked. i got some tin foil and 5minute epoxy. Then i clued little tiny squares on the little black Nipples where they would contact the circuit board. Waited 6 minutes and put back together. Found out that if you start the car twice with out puting the key in the ignition you can't use the remote start. After putting the key in the ignition and starting it you reset the system and can remote start again. Dealer wanted 114 for the key remote and 54 to reprogram the remote to the car. I fixed my factory remote for under $20. Hope this helps someone

after i had started the car twice with the remote start i would get one flash of the lights while trying to remote start the car again. I put the key in the ignition and turned the car on. turned it off and was able to remote start it again

How do I tell if my Malibu Maxx came with remote start?

At the top of your Keyless Entry remote, there should be a button in the center between the Lock and Unlock buttons. If not, it most likely didn't come with it.

No check engine light here. Everything else in the car seems to be working just fine at the moment. I get the same single flash with the remote start, though. I did, however, just read the following answer on another site that may be of help?

"Answer
It appears that the PASSLOCK II momentary bypass module
was either not installed, has lost programming,
or is simply malfunctioning.

Best suggestion here is to take it into either GM
(if it's they're unit) or an after market installer,
(preffereably not the one who installed it!)
and have them add, or repair the afore mentioned bypass
module. At this point, you are only doing damage
to the VATS (vehicle anti-theft system) by
attempting the remote start process over and over
again with no results. This could become
a real problem if not attended to.

I hope this helped some.

Good luck.

Hatch won't open on 2004 Malibu Maxx

Try pushing the trunk release and turning the key in the lock at the same time.
It sounds like the electric lock has not released for what ever reason.
You should hear the trunk release relay when you push the remote.

2004 Chevy Malibu Maxx engine troubles

Put a voltmeter on the battery whilst cranking. Sometimes a marginal battery will have a big voltage drop that will cause the engine to crank but not start with the remote starter but it will start with the key. One attempt with the remote puts unburnt fuel in the engine that throws off the next attempt to start with the key.
