You can wait its just fine, However if you ever start to notice oil leaking from front cover, then you will need to change. If there is no loss in power feel sluggish especially on take off, Its almost impossible for these type of chains to break. So enjoy until the wheel fall off..lol. good luck

If this engine is the six cylinder then no. but i would change grade of motor oil. use something for high mileage cars. but if the chain tensioner starts making noises then it is time to change everything. and if V6 model then there is four chains and a tensioner to change.

My timing chain broke, should I get it fixed or get a used engine?

if it is an interference engine then it is done, valves hit the pistons. I can't get any info on the engine, so call the dealer and ask. Still easier to fix timing chain than haul out the engine, but with those miles if you can find a good deal on the engine and install then go for it. 1000$ would be my max expense.

I have a Nissan Maxima 2004 3.5 SE. It makes a rattling sound from the engine when I start the it or when the engine is running but idle. I have been told this is the timing chain that needs to be...

The rattle that you hear is the upper timing chain tensioners, they can be changed without doing the entire timing chain job, which is really expensive and difficult.

2003 nissan xterra v-6 does it have a timing chain or belt and if it has a belt when does it need to be changed?

It has a timing belt, not a chain. Easy enough to check your owners manual. From memory, belt is to be replaced at about 100,000 miles or 160,000 km give or take.

Clicking sound under hood - possible timing chain

timing chain life span varies, it depends on what type of driving u do, for instance heavy on the throttle wears ythem out faster from the streaching this causes, but at 160,000 miles the noise u are hearing is likely a loose timing chain, replace it before it comes apart and damages the engine. This job is not for the home mechanic, it requires special tools and a high degree of skill and a factory service manual is a must.

Does nissan maxima 2001 has a timing belt or chain .and after how many miles does that need to be changed.?

For the 2001 Nissan Maxima 3.0L SFI DOHC V6:
It has a Timing Chain.
Unlike Timing Belts, Timing Chains will normally last the lifetime of the car. However, when it is time to change the Water Pump: it is a really great idea to change the Timing Chain and Camshaft and Crankshaft Sprockets, as you are in the vicinity and have already torn down everything already.
Professionally, but not officially, I like the 100,000 miles rule with Timing Chains.

It is a timing chain, and 100,000 miles is a good time to change it.
