SOURCE: 79 chevy k10 starter problems
The engine compartment wiring harness has several fusible links. The same size wire with a special hypalon insulation must be used when replacing a fusible link.
The links are located in the following areas:
The other thing it MIGHT be is a faulty ignition cylinder (where your key goes into to start the K10).
Check the wire harness on the steering column also.

you may need to check your exciter wire. If you ndo not have power going through that wire, the ignition switch itself may be bad.

If the floor ducts and the dashboard ducts work it would indicate a problem with the blend door that redirects the flow of air from the lower sections to the defrost. It could be because of a vacuum leak or a problem with the tube going to the blend motor. Can you hear a slight hiss in the dash with the engine running? Has a sound system been installed or any other work done in the dash recently?
