If you have replaced the switch, and it is still doing it it sounds like you definately have a short somewhere in your wiring. On the other hand if the dimmer is in the turn signal arm ( forward bright back dim ) the problem could also be there in the dimmer switch, such as a short being caused by that dimmer switch being faulty.Auto Zone and Discount Auto Parts both test a lot of your electrical problems for free, and/or may have some knowledge to more accurately pin point the problem. Not sure about Pep Boys or some of the other discount auto part chains.

SOURCE: Volts drop off while driving and then go back up

Chk. all your connections to the battery make sure there clean and tight, and also to the starter, and all other ground connections like from frame to engine to body. I know you said auto zone chk. it and said it was ok but it still sounds like the internal regulator is kicking in and out to me, but a loose connection could cause that to.if you chk. everything i sugested, and find no problem, find a shop that specializes in alt. rebuilding and have them chk. it they know a little more than auto zone does, its there business.

It sounds like you have a ground problem an voltage is back feeding through the circuit or resistance some where in the circuit. Do have DVOM - digital volt ohm meter ? You can get free wiring diagrams at ! suggest you go to youtube an check out some videos on basic automotive electrical trouble shooting an voltage drop testing before you try testing an repairing this problem . You didn't say make ,model an year of vehicle , but on semi new vehicles till now they use electronic control modules for control of these type circuits . If you are not familiar with automotive electrical circuits I suggest you take it to an automotive electrical shop .

2004 xterra would sound sluggish when cranking. Similar to the sound a car makes if timing is off. Belts are fine. And put new battwey and terminals. Cranked fine dor two to three rimes but started doing...

while the voltage on the battery may be perfect with a multimeter on a still test , what is the battery voltage when trying to crank the engine. If the voltage drops to below 10 volts you have a battery problem. All headlights dim while cranking and the flatter the battery the greater the dim of the lights. It is bad practice to have the lights on while trying to crank the engine as the current draw for the lights takes power away from the ECM and ignition system

00 grand Prix se 3.1 idles high when first started then goes to nornal when warms up but sluggish when push the gas over half way

Check TPS on throttle body with volt meter, sounds like a bad one. If volt meter hooked up you should get a steady rise in voltage, about 5 volts. If jumps up and drops off, maybe bad.

2001 jeep grand cherokee when headlights on the right blinker blinks fast and right headlight is dim

Seems like an Earth problem for the RH lights.
Grab a Jumper lead. Attach one end to a good earth (engine or Neg. Battery post).
Other end to the RH metal mud guard.

What does the sony stereo orange wire connect to in 96 jeep cherokee

The orange wire from the Sony is the illumination wire, 12 volts put to this wire will dim the display on the stereo. The Jeep's BLUE/RED wire should have that function. Use a test light or multi meter to check for 12 volts + on that wire when the park lights are turned on.
The stereo will still function perfectly without the connection, just won't have the auto-dim feature.

Have not had any problems with vehicle. Went out to start it tonight and it would not start. Sounds like engine is trying to turn over, but it won't. Light comes on indicating "service emission

Does the engine turn over fast or is it sluggish? Headlights bright or dim? If engine turns over sluggish and headlights are dim, I'd suspect a defective/discharged battery or possibly a charging problem causing the battery problem. Start by making sure the battery cable terminals at the battery posts are clean and tight.

Put a voltmeter across the battery posts with the engine off, you should measure 12.8 volts if the battery is fully charged. Less voltage and the battery is not fully charged. When you try to start the engine, the battery voltage will drop momentarily when the starter is engaged. I would not be surprised to see the voltage to drop to 8-9 volts when the starter is engaged and the engine turning over. If it drops to a lower voltage, I would suspect a battery problem. The "service emmisions" light I would expect to be a secondary indication and resolve itself once the engine starting problem is resolved.

93 nissan pathfinder charging problems

check for voltage at the battery with the engine running. You should see 14 plus volts. Now turn on the lights, bower motor, and whatever else you can to put the maximum draw on the battery. If the voltage drops below 13 volts the alternator is bad.

99 chevy blazer blows heat only sometimes

You need to check for a loose ground again. The dash seems to have a loose ground. Your heat and ac are controlled by motors that get input from your switch. You might try following that harness and see if there is a loose ground. Other than that I don't have a clue. You might also check near the firewall and make sure the ground strap there was bolted to the engine.

either the battery is on its last legs or the starter motor is burnt out, have battery drop tested first and if it appears ok then use a heavy discharge induction amp meter to measure how many amps the starter is drawing

1999 Buick Regal starting problems

Connect a volt meter to the neg. and pos. of the battery. Have an assistant start your car and watch to see how far the voltage drops. If it drops more than 2 volts, for example, hook up the meter, you should see 12 volts. By starting the car and it drops below 10 volts during start up, your starter is slowly going out. It taking more amperage to start it than normal.
