Your alternator belt will be routed one of these two ways, depending on wether or not you have a auxiliary tensioning roller or not. Installation of an alternator belt - a107cc9.pngf55072f.png

Alternator belt layout

Go to RealOEM.com and look up your vehicle. The parts diagram shows the routing of the belt.
This is important because on your car, it is possible to put the belt on wrong.

NEED DIAGRAM ON HOW TO INSTALL SERPENTINE BELT ON 1998 BMW AROUND ALTERNATOR, WATER PUMP

On a '98 six cylinder, I think it will only fit one way, so you can't get it wrong.
Look up your car on RealOEM.com and it should show the shape of the belt when it is installed.

I need the alternator / fan serpentine belt diagram for my 2002 bmw 325I. Thankyou

Look up your car on RealOEM.com. It shows the belt shape when installed.
Good that you asked. I understand that it is physically possible to get it to fit with the alternator spinning backwards.
I presume that you just replaced belts and pulleys. A 2003 would be about due.
Be glad you don't have a 330 rather than a 325. The 330 is just enough tighter space to make the job about four times as difficult. (I have both).

Could you please send me a diagram for the alternater belt on a 2004 bmw 320d. Thank you.

It will only go on two ways. One way spins the alternator backwards. If you look at the fan on the alternator, you should be able to figure out which way it is supposed to spin.
Also, go to RealOEM.com and put in your body style (e46) and model. Browse Parts, choose Engine and then Belt Drive. You will see an image of the belts and pulleys that shows how it should look.

Serpentine Belt installation

look for the belt tensioner it is normally a smooth roller holding tension on the belt get a 3/8 socket and make sure you get the right socket and use this to pulll the tensioner down and the diagram for the belt is normally under the hood somewhere and if it isn't you can either draw you a diagram how the belt came off or go to auto zone and they will print you out a diagram
