Question about 1987 Chevrolet S-10 Pickup

1 Answer

1987 Chevy S10 won't stay running

I tested the battery, starter (and changed the cilanoid??), still wouldn't stay cranked. Then checked fuel filter, it was clogged, so changed that. Still didn't fix it, then changed the fuel pump. Cranked right up and then died. I was told to next check the ignition switch. This is my next step. Any ideas???

Don't change the switch, but call your local parts place and see if your truck has an ignition module, I know the 4.3's do.. also let us know if you have spark at the cyl's.. check this by taking a spark wire off the plug and placing very close to a metal surface, CARFULLY have someone else turn engine over and look for spark.. make sure to be carful not to get zapped, and if no spark, make sure it is very close to something metal so the spark can jump... let us know..

Ran out of gas, car wouldn't crank replaced fuel pump, fuel relay, and in line fuel filter and still won't crank on 2002 chevy avalanche

still won't crank ? how's your battery ? starter ? starter solonoid ? if your engine does'nt crank , its dead ! would'nt you check the battery first ? then move on with checking the starter circuit ? seems like your putting the cart before the horse ! first of all, when you run out of gas, you need to replace the FUEL FILTER, your engine just sucked the dirt, garbage, etc., out of the tank. there's plenty of sediment in the tank, don't know how it gets there, but, you'd be surprized ! talking threw experience !!! I operate heavy equipment, its a cardinal sin to run out of fuel !!! you say you replaced the inline filter, which one, up by the engine or the main filter, under vehicle along frame ? are we talking about the same animal, PLEASE CLARIFY !

Chevy s10 will not start

if not cranking check battery, batt connections, starter test with jumper cables and test by hooking to the case and motor brushes near the front of the solenoid.
if cranking remove air cleaner to see if gas is making it to injector.
no gas easiest replace gas filter.
then have someone cycle key to see if pump is running.
no pump first ground the tank to a clean spot on frame.
still no pump check fuse.
in engine compartment locate the fuel pump relay, cycle key to
see if it is clicking on n off.
if not check ECM at parts store and bring relay maybe they can test them now.
good luck

I have a 96 Chevy s10 it cranks but won't start I

You need to find out if the fuel pump is working, getting gas up to the engine.
If the pump is working and seen to have good fuel pressure, check ignition by checking for spark.. To work, the engine needs, you know, gas, air, spark, and compression. Why people say, check for gas, check for spark.

I've changed the alternater,starter, voltages

Troubleshoot first and then change parts! What was the original problem? It just won't crank over? The alternator just charges the battery the voltage regulator keeps from putting too much of a charge into the battery. Was the battery going dead? Did the vehicle start when jumping it with jumper cables? Too many unanswered questions to offer help, sorry.

Hello. My 1997 Chevy Tahoe refuses to start. The problems began with a bad fuel pump. I changed. It worked. The fuel pump died again. I changed it again and it has been working. I parked it for two weeks....

Now you have a good battery & a starter that turns over the motor

Have you cycled the key on & off with a fuel pressure gauge on the
fuel rail?

Do you have a fuel filter that isn't over 3 or 4 years old?

Have you checked for spark while cranking ? Use an old plug on the wires,
if you have ignition wires, don't ground the wire without resistance

If you removed the ducting & MAF Sensor it won't start

Tell us what you checked & exactly how that was done.

1987 chevy s10 will not run. changed weak fuel pump and prssure is fine now, swapped out ecm, replace fuel pressure switch, oil pressure sensor, distrib cap, rotor, elec chip on distrib, o2 sensor, map...

It does sound like a fuel problem, try running some jet cleaner through as you may have clogged jets. Sometimes, removal of air filter and placing the palm of your hand over the top of the carb's butterfly valve, will clear blocked jets when engine cranked over a couple of turns.
Also check the float valve is letting fuel in, could be stuck.
I hope this helps.
