Question about 2003 Nissan Altima

2 Answers

I have a 2002 Nissan Altima, engine's fine and drives ok. I parked and came back in 5 minutes and could not get it to start. It turns but does not start. There is gas in it, the sparks are new and the battery is fine. Addtional information: key is a duplicate provided by the owner but not manufacturer's original.

Hi, thanks for your help, after a few hours of troubleshooting we found out that the cam sensor had failed, we got a replacement from Nissan for the '02 Altima and it worked. The strange thing is that Nissan gave us the wrong part (didn't know until we tried to put everything back, they gave us a cam sensor for a V6 engine while we needed one for a 4 valve engine), but the car started. They do not have the required part at that dealership so we are still looking. Thanks for your help!

If it is turning over, the problem is not the key. Could be a fuel delivery problem - fuel pump, injectors, etc. Sorry but there is not much that can be confirmed unless you get someone to look it over on the spot.

Have you used the other key, that the previous owner gave you?? Look at the security light. Is it ON steady or is it flashing, few seconds afret the door is shut?? You may have used UNREGISTERED key, which imobilized the car. If the light is flashing, than you have a different issue. (posibly crank sensor).Let me know what you got.

In spite of what Firestone did it still sounds like you have a defective speed sensor. Other people have also had this problem and it was solved by replacing the speed sensor.

I hope it resolves your problem.

I think that your crank angle sensor failed. Is the check engine light on?? if so, scan it and get code. If the code is P0335, than you need new crank angle sensor. Nissan has been having some problems with those even on other Nissan products. (Altima, Pathfinder and so on) Good luck.
