Over heating we put the fan to direct current when we start the car , took out the thermostat change the radiator , change the water pump,change the cap

What engine is in the car should be 3.8 liter you must have a thermostat in to keep it from over heating it will get hotter and hotter if you don't you diden't say if you were boiling over pressure was forcing out the water all makes a bid differnce in trouble shooting cooling system need more info on this one sorry

CHECK YOUR RELAY IN YOUR FUSE BOX UNDER THE HOOD ON THE DRIVERS SIDE INNER FENDER. THE A/C AND THE HEATER RELAY ARE SAME. CHECK AND SEE IF THE A/C REALY WORKS BY TURNING ON YOUR A/C SWITCH. THE ELECTRIC FAN SHOULD START RIGHT AWAY. OTHERWISE YOU HAVE TO WAIT TILL THE ENGINE ACHEIVES OPERATING TEMP TO KICK THE FAN ON. IF ONE DON'T WORK AND OTHER OTHER DOES... SWITCH THE RELAY AND SEE IF IT WORKS. BEEN THERE AND DONE THAT. $9.00 FOR A NEW RELAY AT CHECKER AUTO PARTS.

ok, its time for a radiator flush. there is major sludge in the internals of this radiator. Make sure the thermostat is in the correct position as well. I've seen many cars come into my shop with the thermostat inserted backwards.

The car over heats in a matter of minutes. We put a new water pump on but we need to know where the fans sensors are? Cn you help?


If it's overheating in a matter of minutes from cold, it is probably not the fan or fan switches. If the gauge goes up that fast, it is often because of air in the system. When hot air hits a water sensor, the gauge will skyrocket. make sure the radiator is full and open any bleeders in the cooling system (if it has any) to purge all of the air out. Also, try turning on the air conditioner -- that should start the cooling fan -- to see if that makes a difference. One more thing: just because a part is new, don't assume it's good. I once saw a car overheating with no heat and a full radiator (classic water pump) with a new water pump on it. We took it off and realized the impellor (blades) was loose on the shaft! Good luck.

Heating problem


If you changed the thermostat yourself and have noted that the lower radiator hose is cooler than the upper radiator hose, you may have installed the thermostat incorrectly or have purchased a faulty thermostat. A lower radiator hose that does not get hot (or as hot as the upper radiator hose) is a direct indication of a faulty thermostat. Please vote for this solution if you found this to be helpful. I have a 97 bmw 316i, we have changed the water pump, checked heads and changed radiator, bleed it at a 40degree angle filled it with coolant and it is still overheating after a ten minute drive?


You actually need the thermostat in to pressurize your cooling system or the coolant won't cyle through the radiator, it'll just cycle around the engine. Most people think without the thermostat in the coolant will just pump freely through the engine and radiator, but it doesn't.

Chuck in a new thermostat, purge the air out of the system and see if it overheats then. I gaurentee it won't, if it does then you've got head problems (but they should already be obvious by now).
