Pull into Autozone and have analyzed for free. Once error code is shown, replace part as needed.

you have a severe missfire thats why the light is blinking

Blinking Check Engine Light

DO NOT DRIVE your car with the check engine light blinking! get it diagnosed and fixed ASAP.

Driving a car with a blinking check engine will most likely damage the catylist converter.

They are expensive. (to replace it can easily be more than a few hundred dolllars)
Thats on top of the original problem.

I hope this advise saves you (and others) some money, let me know if it does.

Over drive light on shifter blinks and check engine light is lit.

You need to have it scanned for codes. The flashing overdrive light means it has trouble codes that pertain to the transmission.

Engine light blinking in my Mazda MPV

A BLINKING ENGINE LIGHT INDICATES AN ENGINE CYLINDER IS MIS-FIRING. HAVE THE TROUBLE CODES TESTED TO DETERMINE WHICH ONE. DO NOT DRIVE THIS WAY AT HIGH SPEEDS AS IT MAY OVERHEAT THE EXHAUST SYSTEM AND CREATE A FIRE HAZARD.
