NEED HELP, ANYBODY , I DROP A BOLT FROM THE WATER PUMP INSIDE THE ENGINE COOLING BLOCK WHEN I WAS CLEANING THE BLOCK TO INSTALL A NEW WATER PUMP IN A 1994 FORD RANGER, CAN I JUST LEAVE IT INSIDE THE BLOCK AND INSTALL THE WATER PUMP?

You probably can, and here's why.
See if this is true on your Ranger.
Most cars and trucks have the water pump connected to the lower radiator hose.
The way it works, the pump pulls (sucks) the water from the bottom of the radiator and pushes it throughout the moter, where it returns in the top hose to be cooled in the radiator.
The flow is from top to bottom in the radiator.
Unless that bolt is so small it eventually winds up blocking your thermostat, it should probably stay in the water jacket.
If it blocks the thermostat some day, it may be retreivable in the thermostat hole.

SOURCE: I need to bleed air from my radiator/engine block

It is usually located on either the thermostat housing or on the highest point in the cooling system top radiator hose housing going into the engine. Run the motor for approx. ten minutes then turn heater on high unscrew bleeder 3/4 of a turn and then turn back in when coolant squirts out. Repeat after 5 more minutes of run time.

Water pump 2000 3.0 liter dodge caravan


For The 3.0 Motor. (3.3 Way down the line.)

Drain cooling system.
Remove timing belt. Refer to Engine for procedure.
Remove water pump mounting bolts.
Separate pump from water inlet pipe and remove water pump.

Timing Belt Removal
Raise vehicle and remove accessory drive belt splash shield (Fig. 66).
Remove accessory drive belts.
Remove crankshaft pulley and damper (Fig. 68).
Support engine and remove right side engine mount.
Remove engine support bracket (Fig. 67).
Remove timing belt covers (Fig. 67).
Mark belt running direction for installation (Fig. 69).
Loosen timing belt tensioner bolt (Fig. 71) and remove timing belt.
Remove crankshaft sprocket flange shield (Fig. 68). CAMSHAFT SPROCKETS To remove camshaft sprockets
Hold camshaft sprocket with Spanner Tool MB-990775. Loosen and remove bolt and washer (Fig. 70).
Remove camshaft sprocket from camshaft. To install camshaft sprockets:
Place camshaft sprocket on camshaft.
Install bolt and washer to camshaft. Using Spanner Tool MB-990775, hold camshaft sprocket and torque bolt to 95 Nm (70 ft. lbs.) (Fig. 70). TIMING BELT TENSIONER
Install timing belt tensioner and tensioner spring.
Hook spring upper end to water pump pin and lower end to tensioner bracket with hook out (Fig. 71).
Turn timing belt tensioner counterclockwise full travel in adjustment slot and tighten bolt to temporarily hold this position (Fig. 72).

INSTALLATION


Install timing belt on crankshaft sprocket and keep belt tight on tension side (Fig. 69). Install belt on the front (radiator side) camshaft sprocket. Install belt on the water pump pulley, rear camshaft sprocket and finally on the timing belt tensioner.
Rotate the front camshaft sprocket in opposite direction to take up belt slack. Check that all timing marks are aligned (Fig. 69).
Install crankshaft sprocket flange (Fig. 68).
Loosen tensioner bolt and allow spring to tension timing belt.
Turn crankshaft two full turns in clockwise direction. Turn smoothly and in clockwise direction ONLY.
Align the timing marks on the sprockets and tighten the timing belt tensioner locking bolt to 28 Nm (250 in. lbs.) torque.
Install timing belt covers.
Install engine support bracket.
Install right side engine mount.
Install crankshaft damper and pulleys (Fig. 68). Tighten damper center bolt to 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.) .
Install accessory drive belts.
Install accessory drive belt splash shield (Fig. 66).

Be sure to also replace all the cam and crank seals why you are there. Might as well put a belt on too.

FOR THE 3.3 OR 3.8 MOTORS.

Drain Cooling System.
Remove accessory drive belt.
Remove right front lower fender shield.
Remove water pump pulley bolts and remove pulley.
Remove water pump mounting screws. Remove water pump.
Remove and discard O-ring seal.
Clean O-ring groove and O-ring surfaces on pump and chain case cover. Take care not to scratch or gouge sealing surface

Installation

Install new O-ring into groove.
Install water pump to chain case cover. Tighten screws to 12 Nm (105 inch lbs.) .
Rotate pump by hand to check for freedom of movement.
Position pulley on pump. Install screws and tighten to 30 Nm (250 inch lbs.) .
Install accessory drive belt.
Install right front lower fender shield.
Refill Cooling System.

FOR THE 2.4 MOTOR

Disconnect negative cable from battery.
Raise vehicle on a hoist. Remove right inner splash shield.
Remove accessory drive belts.
Drain cooling system.
Support engine from the bottom and remove right engine mount.
Remove right engine mount bracket.
Remove timing belt. Refer to Engine for procedure.
Remove timing belt idler pulley.
Hold camshaft sprocket with Special tool C-4687 and adaptor C-4687-1 while removing bolt. Remove both cam sprockets.
Remove rear timing belt cover.

Install new O-ring gasket in water pump body O-ring groove. CAUTION: Make sure O-ring is properly seated in water pump groove before tightening screws. An improperly located O-ring may cause damage to the O-ring and cause a coolant leak.
Assemble pump body to block and tighten screws to 12 Nm (105 inch lbs.) . Pressurize cooling system to 15 psi with pressure tester and check water pump shaft seal and O-ring for leaks.
Rotate pump by hand to check for freedom of movement.
Install rear timing belt cover.
Install camshaft sprockets and torque bolts to 101 Nm (75 ft. lbs.) .
Install timing belt idler pulley and torque mounting bolt to 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.) .
Install timing belt. Refer to Engine for procedure.
Install right engine mount bracket and engine mount. Refer to Engine for procedure.
Fill cooling system.
Install accessory drive belts.
Lower vehicle and connect battery cable.

Removal & Installation
  1. Note the radio security code and station presets.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  3. Drain the coolant from the radiator, into a suitable container.
  4. Remove the timing belt. Refer to the Timing Belt replacement in this section for specific details.
  5. On Odyssey models with the V6 engine, remove the timing belt tensioner. Refer to the Timing Belt replacement in this section for specific details.
  6. Remove the bolts that attach the pump to the cylinder block.
  7. If available, locate the two 6.0 mm x 1.0 mm threaded holes opposite from one another on the outer perimeter of the water pump.
    • Install by hand, two 6.0mm x 1.0mm bolts at least 1 in. (25mm) long, until resistance is felt.
    • Simultaneously turn each bolt one turn at a time until the water pump can be released from the engine block.
  8. Remove the water pump.

If available, use the two 6.0 mm x 1.0 mm threaded holes on the water pump to release the pump from the engine block

Make sure the water pump O-ring is fully seated in the water pump. Using a non hardening gasket sealant will help to hold the seal in place during assembly


To install:

  1. Inspect and clean the O-ring mating surface on cylinder block.
  2. Install a new O-ring on the water pump. Apply a non-hardening gasket sealant between the water pump O-ring and the pump to hold the O-ring in place during assembly.
  3. Install the water pump onto the cylinder block and tighten the bolts to 106 inch lbs. (12 Nm).
  4. On Odyssey models with the V6 engine, install the automatic timing belt tensioner, with the tensioner fully retracted using the special tool 14540-P8A-A01 or equivalent. Refer to the Timing Belt replacement in this section for specific details.
  5. Install the timing belt.
  6. On 4-cylinder Odyssey models, open the cooling system bleed bolt located on the thermostat housing.
  7. Set the heater to the full hot position.
  8. Refill the radiator with a coolant mixture containing 50% antifreeze. Use only antifreeze formulated to prevent the corrosion of aluminum parts. Fill the radiator with the coolant solution.
  9. On 4-cylinder Odyssey models, fill with coolant until the bleed bolt is free of air bubbles. Then, tighten the bleed bolt to 88 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
  10. Install the radiator cap loosely.
  11. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
  12. Run the engine until the cooling fans cycle two times.
  13. Turn the engine OFF and top off the cooling system as necessary.
  14. Install the radiator cap and check for coolant leaks. Be sure the cooling fan turns on.
  15. Recheck the coolant level and add more if necessary.
  16. Enter the radio security code.

Water pump removal


Water Pump REMOVAL & INSTALLATION CAUTION
Never open, service or drain the radiator or cooling system when hot; serious burns can occur from the steam and hot coolant. Also, when draining engine coolant, keep in mind that cats and dogs are attracted to ethylene glycol antifreeze and could drink any that is left in an uncovered container or in puddles on the ground. This will prove fatal in sufficient quantities. Always drain coolant into a sealable container. Coolant should be reused unless it is contaminated or is several years old. 1.8L Engine
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Drain the cooling system.
  3. Remove the timing belt.
  4. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  5. Remove the engine oil dipstick tube bracket bolt(s) from the water pump.
  6. Remove the two bolts and the gasket from the water inlet pipe.
  7. Remove all but the uppermost water pump mounting bolt.
  8. Lower the vehicle.
  9. Remove the remaining bolts and the water pump assembly.
  10. If the water pump is being reused, remove all gasket material from the water pump.

    To install:
  12. Install a new gasket onto the water pump.
  13. Place the water pump into its mounting position, then install the uppermost bolt.
  14. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  15. Install the remaining water pump mounting bolts and tighten all bolts to 14-19 ft. lbs. (19-25 Nm).
  16. Install a new gasket onto the water inlet pipe.
  17. Install the two bolts from the water inlet pipe to the water pump and tighten to 14-19 ft. lbs. (19-25 Nm).
  18. Install the bolt to the engine oil dipstick tube bracket.
  19. Lower the vehicle.
  20. Install the timing belt.
  21. Fill the cooling system.
  22. Connect the negative battery cable.
  23. Start the engine and allow it to reach operating temperature. Check for coolant leaks.
  24. Check the coolant level and add coolant, as necessary.
1.9L Engine
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Drain the cooling system.
  3. Remove the timing belt cover and the timing belt.
  4. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  5. Remove the lower radiator hose from the water pump.
  6. Remove the heater hose from the water pump.
  7. Lower the vehicle.
  8. Support the engine with a suitable hydraulic floor jack.
  9. Remove the right engine mount attaching bolts and roll the engine mount aside.
  10. Remove the water pump attaching bolts.
  11. Using the floor jack, raise the engine enough to provide clearance for removing the water pump.

    To install:
  13. Make sure the mating surfaces of the cylinder block and water pump are clean and free of gasket material.
  14. If the water pump is to be replaced, transfer the timing belt tensioner components to the new water pump.
  15. With the engine supported and raised with a suitable floor jack, place the water pump and the gasket on the cylinder block and install the four attaching bolts. Tighten the bolts to 15-22 ft. lbs. (20-30 Nm).
  16. Install the timing belt and cover.
  17. Roll the engine mount into position and install the mount bolts. Remove the floor jack.
  18. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  19. Connect the heater hose to the pump.
  20. Lower the vehicle.
  21. Connect the negative battery cable.
  22. Refill the cooling system.
  23. Start the engine, allow it to reach normal operating temperature and check for coolant leaks.
  24. Check the coolant level and add as necessary.

Removal & Installation 2.2L VIN 4 To Remove:
  1. Drain the cooling system.
  2. Remove the lower radiator hose from thermostat housing.
  3. Remove the thermostat housing bolts and outlet.
  4. Remove the thermostat.
  5. Clean the mating surfaces.
To Install:
  1. Install the thermostat.
  2. Install the thermostat housing and bolts.
  3. Install the coolant housing bolts. Tighten bolts to 14 Nm (10 ft. lbs.).
  4. Install the lower radiator hose to thermostat housing.
  5. Fill the cooling system.
  6. Inspect for leaks.
2.2L VIN F To Remove:
  1. Remove the exhaust manifold. If equipped with an automatic transmission.
  2. Drain the cooling system.

  11. Clean the mating surfaces.
To Install:
  1. Clean the mating surfaces.

  4. Install the transaxle-to-engine block brace and install bolts.
  5. Install the right engine splash shield.
  6. Install the wheel.
  7. Lower the vehicle.
  8. Install the exhaust manifold heat shield and bolt.
  9. Tighten the exhaust manifold heat shield bolts to 14 Nm (10 ft. lbs.).
  10. Fill the cooling system.
  11. Inspect the system for leaks.

Removal & Installation 2.2L Engine To Remove:
  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
  2. If equipped with an automatic transmission, remove the exhaust manifold..
  3. Drain the cooling system.
  4. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:
    • Right front wheel and tire assembly.
    • Right front fender liner. chevy_cav_02-04_accescover.gif

    • Access plate on the water pump sprocket from the timing cover.
  6. Install J 43651 water pump sprocket holder or equivalent to the water pump sprocket.
  7. Use the access plate bolts to attach J43651 to the engine front cover.
  8. Remove or disconnect the following:
    • Bolts that secure the sprocket to the water pump.
    • Bolt that secures the engine block to the water pump.
    • Bolt that secures the engine front cover to the water pump.
    • Feed pipe that joins the thermostat housing to the water pump. chevy_cav_02-04_wp.gif

    • 2 Bolts that secure the water pump to the engine block.
    • Water pump.
To Install:
  1. Use a threaded stud in the hub to align the water pump sprocket.
  2. Install or connect the following:
    • Water pump.
    • 2 bolts that secure the water pump to the engine block.
    • Feed pipe that joins the thermostat housing to the water pump.
    • Front cover bolt and the bolt that secures the engine block to the water pump. Tighten the bolts to 15 ft lbs (20 Nm).
    • 2 of the bolts that secure the water pump sprocket to the water pump.
  3. Remove the threaded stud.
  4. Install the last bolt.
    • Tighten the bolts to 89 in lbs (10 Nm).
  5. Remove J 43651.
  6. Install the access plate on the water pump sprocket to the timing cover.
  7. Install the access plate bolts.
    • Tighten the bolts to 18 in lbs (10 Nm).
  8. Install the front fender liner.
  9. Install the right front tire and wheel.
  10. If equipped with an automatic transmission, install the exhaust manifold.
  11. Fill the cooling system.
  12. Connect the battery ground cable.
2.4L Engine To Remove:

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable
  2. Drain the engine coolant.
  3. Remove the exhaust manifold.
  4. Remove the coolant intake pipe as follows:
    1. Remove the coolant inlet pipe bolts.
    2. Remove the wheel and tire assembly.
    3. Remove the engine splash shield.
    4. Remove the bolts from the transaxle-to-engine block brace and remove the brace.
    5. Remove the radiator hose from the coolant inlet pipe.
    6. Remove the coolant inlet pipe to oil pan bolt.
    7. Remove the coolant inlet pipe, thermostat and seal.
  5. Lower the vehicle.
  6. Disconnect the heater hose quick connect from the heater outlet pipe.
  7. Remove the front timing chain cover and the chain tensioner.
  8. Unfasten the water pump-to-cylinder block bolts.
  9. Remove the water pump-to-timing chain housing nuts.
  10. Remove the water pump and cover mounting bolts and nuts.
  11. Remove the water pump and cover as an assembly. Separate the two pieces after removal.
  12. Clean the mating surfaces.
To Install:
  1. Install the water pump cover to the water pump assembly.
  2. Install and hand tighten the pump cover mounting bolts.
  3. Install water pump cover assembly.
  4. Install and hand tighten the cover-to-block mounting bolts.
  5. Install and hand tighten the water pump-to-timing chain housing nuts.
    • Tighten the water pump-to-timing chain housing mounting nuts to 19 ft lb (26 Nm).
    • Tighten the water pump cover-to-water pump mounting bolts to 124 in lb (14 Nm).
    • Tighten the water pump cover-to-engine block bolts starting with the bottom bolt first to 19 ft lb (26 Nm).
  6. Install the heater hose to the water pump pipe.
  7. Using new gaskets, install the exhaust manifold.
  8. Install the oil level indicator and tube.
  9. Connect the brake vacuum tube to the cam housing.
  10. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  11. Install the catalytic converter.
  12. Install the coolant inlet pipe.
    • Tighten the inlet pipe-to-oil pan bolt to 19 ft lb (26 Nm). Tighten the coolant inlet pipe bolt to 124 in lb (14 Nm).
  13. Install the timing chain and tensioner.
  14. Lower the vehicle.
  15. Connect the oxygen sensor.
  16. Fill cooling system and check the system for leaks.
3.4L Engine To Remove:
  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
  2. Drain the cooling system.
  3. Loosen the water pump pulley bolts.
  4. Remove or disconnect the following:
    • Drive belt.
    • Water pump pulley bolts and pulley.
    • Water pump bolts, pump and gasket.
    • Clean the water pump mating surfaces.
To Install:
  1. Install or connect the following:
    • Water pump gasket and pump.
    • Water pump bolts.
      1. Tighten the water pump bolts to 89 in lbs (10 Nm).
    • Water pump pulley and bolt until snug.
    • Drive belt.
  2. Tighten the water pump pulley bolts to 18 ft. lbs (25 Nm).
  3. Fill the cooling system.
  4. Check for leaks.
  5. Connect the battery ground cable.

WARNING
This procedure requires the removal of the timing belt. This is an extensive procedure requiring precision work, particularly at assembly.   1. Drain the cooling system.
  2. Remove the timing belt. For additional information, please refer to the following topic(s): Timing Belt Removal and Installation.
  3. Remove the idler pulley.
  4. Remove the thermostat.
  5. Disconnect the oil cooler hose from the pump.
  6. Remove the seven bolts and the tension spring bracket and then remove the water pump. To install:
  7. Clean all parts well. It is good practice to carefully clean all threaded openings, especially those exposed to coolant to remove rust and scale so at assembly, an accurate torque reading is obtained. This is important since gasketless applications like this depend on even clamp loads from the fasteners to avoid distortion and leaks. Remove any old sealer (Toyota calls it packing) from the pump and mounting area of the engine. Keep oil off the mating areas.
  8. Apply Formed In Place Gasket (FIPG) sealer to the pump-to-block mating surface and then tighten the bolts marked A in the illustration to 13 ft. lbs. (18 Nm). Tighten those marked B to 14 ft. lbs. (20 Nm). NOTE: The parts must be installed within 5 minutes of application of the sealant. Otherwise you must remove and reapply the sealer.
  9. Connect the oil cooler hose.
  10. Install the thermostat with a new gasket.
  11. Install the idler pulley.
  12. Install the timing belt.
  13. Install the drive belts and adjust the tension.
  14. Refill the cooling system and check for leaks.
2RZ-FE and 3RZ-FE Engines
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Drain the cooling system.
  3. If equipped with an air conditioning compressor or power steering pump drive belts, it may be necessary to loosen the adjusting bolt, remove the drive belt(s) and move the component(s) out of the way.
  4. Remove the fluid coupling with the fan and water pump pulley.
  5. Remove the water pump. To install:
  6. Clean the gasket mounting surfaces.
  7. Install the replacement water pump using a new gasket.
  8. Install the water pump pulley and fluid coupling with the fan.
  9. Install the removed engine drive belts.
  10. Fill the cooling system.
  11. Connect the negative battery cable. Start the engine and check for leaks.
  12. Bleed the cooling system.

How to replace a fuel pump on a 1994 jeep grand cherokee?


I'm assuming that your Jeep have a 5.2L V8 engine (as mine), then check this procedure...

Grand Cherokee 5.2L Engines
(see Figure 6)
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Open the radiator valve and drain the cooling system.
  3. Remove the cooling fan and shroud as an assembly.
  4. Remove the accessory drive belt.
  5. Remove the water pump pulley from the hub.
  6. Disconnect the hoses from the water pump.
  7. Loosen the heater hose coolant return tube mounting bolt and nut and remove the tube. Discard the O-ring.

  1. Remove the water pump mounting bolts.
  2. Loosen the clamp at the water pump end of the bypass hose. Slip the bypass hose from the water pump while removing the pump from the engine. Discard the gasket.
To install:
  1. Clean all gasket mating surfaces.
  2. Guide the water pump and new gasket into position while connecting the bypass hose to the pump. Tighten the water pump bolts to 30 ft. lbs. (40 Nm).
  3. Install the bypass hose clamp.
  4. Spin the water pump to ensure the pump impeller does not rub against the timing chain cover.
  5. Coat a new O-ring with coolant and install it to the heater hose coolant return tube.
  6. Install the coolant return tube to the engine. Ensure the slot in the tube bracket is bottomed to the mounting bolt. This will properly position the return tube.
  7. Connect the radiator hose to the water pump.
  8. Connect the heater hose and clamp to the return tube.
  9. Install the water pump pulley and tighten the bolts to 20 ft. lbs. (27 Nm).
  10. Install the accessory drive belt.
  11. Install the cooling fan and shroud.
  12. Fill the cooling system.
  13. Connect the negative battery cable.
  14. Start the engine and check for leaks.

Water Pump - REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

1.5L and 1.8L Engine

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Drain the cooling system.

CAUTION Never open, service or drain the radiator or cooling system when hot; serious burns can occur from the steam and hot coolant. Also, when draining engine coolant, keep in mind that cats and dogs are attracted to ethylene glycol antifreeze and could drink any that is left in an uncovered container or in puddles on the ground. This will prove fatal in sufficient quantities. Always drain coolant into a sealable container. Coolant should be reused unless it is contaminated or is several years old.
  1. Remove the engine undercover.
  2. Disconnect the clamp bolt from the power steering hose.
  3. Remove the engine drive belts.
  4. Support the engine with the appropriate equipment and remove the engine mount bracket.
  5. Remove the timing belt. Refer to the timing belt procedure in this section.
  6. Remove the power steering pump bracket.
  7. Remove the alternator brace.
NOTE The water pump mounting bolts are different in length, note their positioning for reassembly.
  1. Remove the water pump, gasket and O-ring where the water inlet pipe(s) joins the pump.
To install:
  1. Thoroughly clean both gasket surfaces of the water pump and block.
  2. For 1.5L engines, install a new O-ring into the groove on the front end of the water inlet pipe. Do not apply oils or grease to the O-ring. Wet the O-ring with water only.
  3. For 1.8L engines, apply a 0.09-0.12 in. (2.5-3.0mm) continuous bead of sealant to water pump and install the pump assembly. Install the water pump within 15 minutes of the application of the sealant. Wait 1 hour after installation of the water pump to refill the cooling system or start the engine.
  4. Install the gasket and pump assembly and tighten the bolts to 17 ft. lbs. (24 Nm). Use care when aligning the water pump with the water inlet pipe.
  5. Install the remaining components in the reverse order of removal.
  6. Fill the system with coolant.
  7. Connect the negative battery cable, run the vehicle until the thermostat opens and fill the radiator completely.
  8. Once the vehicle has cooled, recheck the coolant level.

1.6L and 2.0L (SOHC and DOHC) Engines

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Drain the engine coolant.

  3. If necessary, remove the timing belt rear cover.
  4. Remove the water pump mounting bolts.
  5. Remove the water pump, gasket and O-ring.
To install:
  1. Install a new O-ring on the water inlet pipe. Coat the O-ring with water or coolant. Do not allow oil or other grease to contact the O-ring.
  2. Use a new gasket and install the water pump to the engine block. Torque the mounting bolts to 8.7-11 ft. lbs. (12-15 Nm). Install the alternator brace on the water pump. Torque the brace pivot bolt to 17 ft. lbs. (24 Nm).
  3. If removed, install the timing belt rear cover.
  4. Install the timing belt. Refer to the timing belt procedure in this section.
  5. Install the remaining components.
  6. Refill the engine with coolant.
  7. Connect the negative battery cable, start the engine and check for leaks.

Removal & Installation

2.2L Engine
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  3. Drain the engine coolant.
  4. Remove or disconnect the following:
    Exhaust manifold, if equipped with n automatic transaxle Right front wheel Splash shield Water pump sprocket access plate from the timing cover

  5. Attach Water Pump Sprocket Holding Tool J 43651to the sprocket using the access plate bolts to secure the tool to the engine front cover.

To install:
  1. Use a threaded stud in the water pump hub to align the hub to the water pump sprocket.
    Water pump and bolts Thermostat housing to water pump feed pipe Engine front cover bolt and engine block to water pump bolt. Tighten the bolts to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm) 2 of the water pump sprocket to water pump bolts
  2. Remove the threaded stud.
    Last water pump sprocket to water pump bolt and tighten the sprocket bolts to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
  3. Remove the tool.
    Water pump sprocket access plate to the timing cover and tighten the bolts to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm) Splash shield Right front wheel Exhaust manifold, if removed
  4. Fill the cooling system.
  5. Connect the negative battery cable.
2.4L Engine
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  3. Drain the cooling system.
  4. Remove or disconnect the following:
    WARNING Do not rotate the flex coupling more than 4 degrees or damage may occur. Oxygen Sensor (O 2 S) electrical connector Exhaust manifold heat shield Coolant inlet housing bolt through the exhaust manifold Exhaust manifold brace-to-manifold bolt Manifold-to-exhaust pipe studs Coolant inlet housing-to-water pump cover bolt Exhaust pipe from the exhaust manifold by pulling it downward Coolant inlet pipe from the oil pan Brake vacuum pipe from the camshaft housing Exhaust manifold from the cylinder head Heater hose from the heater outlet pipe Timing chain cover and tensioner Water pump cover-to-engine bolts 3 water pump-to-timing chain housing nuts Water pump and cover assembly Water pump cover from the pump
