This time it would be a transmission shop... cheap fix tho i won't guarentee how long it will last... perhaps long enough to win the lottery (gotta buy tickets tho).

stop by your local autozone or canadian tire if live in canada eh and pick up a product made by lucas for the life of me i can't think of the exact name but ask one of the lads or lasses for something that will thicken the transmission fluid.

You add it in the same hole that the dipstick for the transmission goes into.

You will need a funnel.

speaking of which... check the level of the transmission fluid... if it's low add the lucas stuff first then top it up.

actually as long as you don't get about 60 mph driving it in 3rd gear is fine. but this is where a good scanner hooked up to make sure the overdrive button is working would help

Replaced 2 3 sol in trans goes forward in all gears

Transmission gear assembly and transmission needs inspection. Also check the transmission fluid level. Also is the fluid getting leaked or its low.

There are few very helpful links with solutions to troubleshoot this problem.

1998 ford explorer runs fine in drive but in reverse engine only revs as if it were in neutral. Is it the shift cable or the transmission?

to make sure which one disconnect the cable and with your hand click all the way to the front, start the engine have someone in the vehicle with the parking brake on and their foot on the brake the manually put it in reverse, if still no reverse its the transmission.
