Does my 1969 lincoln continental have a timing chain gasket seal?

I know i have one seal thats rather large and fits around the inside edge of the cover where the crank shaft is but i bought a gasket kit and i have another seal that came with it and cant remeber if another one came off the car when i removed everything. I cant find the piece laying around anywhere and now im worried. I tryed place the one from the kit in a few places and doesnt seem to match up so im wondering if anybody out there knows.

Look on the front side of engine you should have a smaller one that looks like the rear seal. the big one u was talkin bout. its where the pulley is from crankshaft.

SOURCE: harmonic balancer rubbing on the timing chain cover

The rubber in the balancer has broken down and the inner and outer pieces shift and rub on the cover. You need a new balancer.

Hello; In regards to the Post, you can do a Strut Converstion and Retrofit, by using the Taurus/Sable struts. This convertion will work, but only for a limited time. The Coil Springs for the REAR, on a Taurus/Sable are much to "soft" for the large Lincoln Continental, it requires stiffer springs, or DO NOT CARRY much of a load in the rear trunk. I used a used pair of Rear struts from a 1994(r) and 1990(f) struts from a Taurus/Sable for the conversion. In all I spent, about $100. I did this conversion, to my 1992 Con in 2004, it lasted without any problems until June 2009, when one of my Rear struts collapsed, due to to much weight in my trunk. You can not carry much of a load, using the Retrofit struts, I gather. The bottom coil Seat of one of my struts has bent downwards, and is not rubbing against the inner well/bead of the tire. Not a nice thing, and very unsafe, and the car will eventually bottom-out due to the week spring arrangement. The car needs springs that are about 50% stronger. FYI. Other then that, it works OK.
The front struts retrofit, are better suited for this conversion, since both vehicles, use the same engine/tran arrangement, and the weight of the vehicle is not inquestion. Only the Rear, but I have not found, a low cost solution to this problem. The only other Alternative, is to buy the Monroe #90001 or Arnott conversion kit, their is also is Strutmasters.com

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the front cover as previously detailed.
  3. Place the No. 1 piston at TDC of the compression stroke so that the marks on the camshaft and crankshaft sprockets are in alignment (see illustration).
  4. Loosen the timing chain tensioner nut as far as possible without actually removing it.
  5. Remove the camshaft sprocket bolts and remove the sprocket and chain together. If the sprocket does not slide from the camshaft easily, a light blow with a soft mallet at the lower edge of the sprocket will dislodge it.
  6. Using a suitable gear puller, remove the crankshaft sprocket. To install:
  7. Press the crankshaft sprocket back onto the crankshaft.
  8. Install the timing chain over the camshaft sprocket and then around the crankshaft sprocket. Make sure that the marks on the two sprockets are in alignment (see illustration). Lubricate the thrust surface with Molykote® or its equivalent.
  9. Align the dowel in the camshaft with the dowel hole in the sprocket and then install the sprocket onto the camshaft. Use the mounting bolts to draw the sprocket onto the camshaft and then tighten to 66–68 ft. lbs. (91–95 Nm).
  10. Lubricate the timing chain with clean engine oil. Tighten the chain tensioner.
  11. Installation of the remaining components is in the reverse order of removal. Fig. 7: Exploded view of the timing chain and sprockets — 2.2L OHV engine 87953107.gif

Noise in the timing chain


May be its problem with timing chain and it has to be inspected and replaced.Or its possible that timing chain is got misaligned.

Is the timing chain on an intervel


recommended at 150,000 miles or if the timing cover gasket starts leaking coolant, which ever comes first.

I HAVE REPLACED THE RIGHT REAR CALIPER ON MY 94 LINCILN CONTINENTAL 5 TIMES IN THE PAST COUPLE OF DAYS. THE SEALS INSIDE THE CALIPER ARE BUSTING EVERY TIME I GO TO BLEED THE SYSTEM AFTER INSTALLATION. ...


Never change a caliper without changing the brake hose. I changed a 94 lincoln Continental rear caliper 3 times before discovering the brake hose had internally collapsed. Chaged it out, solved problem immediately. Your problem sounds a little different however... Mine, the rear caliper would not release.

TRANSMISSION THERMOSTAT INSIDE TRANSMISSION ON VALVE BODY YOU HAVE A PRESSURE LEAK CHECK TRANSMISSION OIL COOLER LINES FITTING TO RADIATOR FOR LEAKS LOOK UNDER CAR WHILE IT RUNNING LOOK FOR FLUID LEAKS. YOU COULD A LEAKING TORQUE CONVERTER SEAL.

Oil where spark plug coil is


you have a bad valve cover gasket/ spark plug o-ring i assume the plug is set in the head with valve cover above it since there is oil in the cover gaskets and o rings are used to seal in oil remove and replace gaskets be sure to find the right torque spec for the cover bolts also remember to start with the center bolts and work your way evenly to the outside

I have oil leaking onto my crank sensor, can you help me know where it's coming from? my car is a 95, lincoln con


could be from the intake manifold or cam seal behind the timing cover. It's also possible
the valve cover gaskets are leaking or the front main seal is leaking. Might try cleaning engine with a good degreaser and see where the leaks originate. Good luck

1992 Lincoln Continental engine/gasket problem


These vehicles are historic for head gasket problems. Ford had issued a recall because there where so many problems. The new head gasket is a different material than the original. Cost to replace varies by shop and geographic location, plan on around 1100 bucks.
