Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

SOURCE: Ford Escape 3L 2002 Rough idle

generally, when the engine is washed, water gets trapped behind the spark unit and stays there, creating a shorting path for spark plug current. best to dis-mount the spark unit (follow plug wires back to source) and dry and clean it thoroughly.

SOURCE: Engine misfiring

It could be you have a bad distributor ar bad spark plugs. It is also a possibility that the cars computer was programmed wrongly. Either way I would suggest going to a Ford Repair shop and having them run a systems check on the computer to properly diagnose what is happening.

SOURCE: I have 2005 f-150 Ford p/u with 5.4 liter engine.

I have found that on Fords vacum leaks are a problem, the one that I see the most is a elbow rubber connector vacum leak at the back of the in take, with engine running with your hand feel the vacum connection's back there you will feel it when you find it.

I would think that many misfire codes would mean it runs terrible, coils go bad alot on the early ones,if it runs badly ,coils are suspect.
would say crank sensor if stiil runs ok,but the cam noise is not good,
lean or misfire won't make the cam noisy, something is broken in the valvetrain

Cylinders 4 5 and 6 should be on the side next to the radiator.

Possible Bad COP Ignition Coils on #4 & #6 cylinder

Forget the 300 & 316 of no use to you

PO 304 is the same as PO354 or letter D
PO 306 is the same as PO356 or letter F

If the codes are the actual bad coils -you won't have to pull

I have intermittant shuddering and it idles rough (rpms jump up and down) and noticed poor gas mileage, 106,000 miles and I just had the fuel filter changed, but that did not take care of it. It is firing...

P0303 is misfire number 3 cylinder P0316 is misfire on startup,Go to the number 3 cylinder at idle listen for a vacuum leak like a rupture or disconnected vacuum line more than likely that is your problem you have

My ford escape idle very rough. it accelerates fine. i need help to solve the problem

If your Escape is v-6 powered a common problem believe it or not is a solenoid in the transmission that allows the torque converter to "unlock" at idle. If the solenoid is bad then the torque converter stays locked and puts a load on the engine causing rough idle in gear at stop.
