Question about 2001 Acura MDX

1 Answer

High pitch whine or whistle

Onset was after a main oil seal replacement and worsened after motor mount replacement by the dealer. Whine is heard beginning at 20 mph and gets louder while accelerating and cruise. Not heard while in neutral or park.

If it was front main seal, the belts all had to come off to acess this..as a result the timing belt may have been replaced by them and put on too tight which will whine as the engine runs..this will get less intense as the new belt gets stretched and will be gone within a few hundred miles..as long as the belt was installed to specs there should be no problem other than a noise which shouldnt last long repost if it keeps on or something else happens..good luck..

SOURCE: high pitched whining sound, I've already changed

You may have a bad idler pulley. Locate it, spray a lubricant (WD-40) behind it. You don't want to get it on the belt surface. If the noise goes away, you have found the problem.

High Pitched Whine

A high pitched whine like that indicates a bad bearing. Water pump, power steering pump, accessory belt slipping, alternator bearing, or in the worst case scenerio, Transmission pump.

I assume that you have a 6cyl engine, noise came from both worned secondary timing chain tenssioner shoes, just replace those two and while you have them all apart, also replace main tenssioner and guide, then all noises will go away. Good luck!

The most common cause would be a defective power steering pump.

Whine from 2005 corolla automatic transmission

Have the tranny serviced with fluid change and filter, if noise it still there it is the torque converter . Have the dealer fix it ,and have it on paper with dealer invoice when it is done. Do all this before warranty expires. IT IS NOT USUAL for any car, Toyota included, to have tranny whine!!!!!

Whining from engine when in gear

Just a thought- remove the oil filler cap when the whine is present - (this checks if PCV valve is faulty, causing high crankcase vacuum, which in turn causes a whistling/whine noise as air leaks past engine oil seals). Worth a check.

Try listening with a short piece of hose pipe to locate immediate area/source of noise.

High Pitch whine during acceleration

Hi Pullerwife,

I have a few suggestions for you,

First of all, check your air filter, make sure its clean, not clogged, and doesn't need to be changed.

I don't know how handy you are, but if you are fairly handy, check the idler pulley bearings, if your not, have a shop check it out, as a last resort.

Power steering pump/fluid being low is also a possibility, but thats usually more of a lower pitched whine then what you describe.

You say once the vehicle is warmed up, the whining stops. Does Weather seem to be a factor as well?

Hope I've helped, and don't forget to rate.

I have the same problem like yours but what i did is to replace the alternator and now its so quite no more high pitched sound. You may used belt stress fluid but its only last for few seconds then sound comes again. I replaced it with refurbish part alternator. My sienna 2005.
