I had a service engine light on a nissan altima to come on autozone said it was a dirty erg and also had a po 400 code. what is a po400 code

P0400 is Exhuast Gas Recirculation Flow Malfunction or restriction. This would be carbon build up in the EGR Valve. You can take it off and clean it with a non-chlronated brake cleaner and wire brush or scraper.Other option is to buy a new one.

Have a po405 code on a 02 impala, said its a egr

In Hopes the info BELOW will Help, And Also the Mass Air Flow Sensor is A Totaly Different Sensor (MAF) The EGR Valve Code you are asking About is More Related to the Exhaust Gas that the EGR Valve is Allowing to Flow Past Its Self. I can tell you that From My Own Experience that EGR Valves Get Dirty More than they Fail and Require a Simple Removal and Cleaning of Carbon Buildup. This is after the Procedure Below is Performed.

CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
The powertrain control module (PCM) monitors the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve pintle position input to ensure that the valve responds properly to commands from the PCM and to detect a fault if the pintle position sensor circuit is open or shorted. If the PCM detect an excessively low EGR Position sensor signal voltage, this diagnostic trouble code (DTC) will set.

CONDITIONS FOR RUNNING THE DTC
The system voltage is greater than 10 volts .

CONDITIONS FOR SETTING THE DTC
  • The EGR Position sensor is less than 0.14 volts at any time.
  • The condition is present for more than 20 seconds .
ACTION TAKEN WHEN THE DTC SETS
  • The control module illuminates the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) on the second consecutive ignition cycle in which the diagnostic runs and fails.
  • The control module records the operating conditions at the time the diagnostic fails. The control module stores this information in the Freeze Frame/Failure Records.
  • The PCM disables the EGR valve for the ignition cycle.

I have a 2001 nissan sentra xe and my check engine light is on i had a diagnostic test and the codes PO 455 and PO 0440 came back what does this mean?

PO 455- Evaporative emission control System leak detected (check exhaust system, egr valve, or entire intake and exhaust system)

PO440- Evaporative Emission System Malfunction (also check oxygen sensor)

MIL on

Actually the PO139 is Downstream O2 sensor slow to respond, And PO400 is EGR flow malfunction. But any why it sounds like the problem is in the exhaust system. I would start by checking the EGR valve first. Make sure the vacuum is operating it properly. If it is not that would make the O2 sensor slow to read or give the emissions system problems with oxygen readings. Good luck and have a good day.

Here are the possible causes for a PO440 code:

EGR valve source vacuum supply line is open or restricted
EGR exhaust tube is clogged or restricted
EGR valve assembly has failed
PCM has failed

Please let me know if this information is helpful. Positive feedback is appreciated. Thank You!
