Yes but its not recommended..in case a short somewhere is visible..do this for testing its much safer...connect a 10 amp battery charger to the backside of the headlight fixture wiring by the wires on the connector(a small jumper wire will help here..) groung goes to any metal surface or battery ground .. then the charger hot lead can be tested with the bare jumper end connected to the headlight wires one at a time.. if a short is present..the charger guage will peg over instantly.. this way, you wont burn up any wires.. good luck.. be carefull..

Tip

Change the headlight bulb in a 2004 durango

There are two methods. 1.) It is possible to maneuver your hand to the lock ring on each headlight assemble from inside the engine compartment. You must work "blind" -- by feel only. The lock ring rotates 1/4 turn to unlock. On the side of the engine with the battery, you must remove the front portion of the plastic battery box. 2.) This method is much easier. Three bolts (one at the top, two on the bottom) that hold the headlight assembly to the vehicle. Look directly at theheadlight, and look in the gap between the top of the headlight and the vehicle fender, and also at the gap between the bottom of the headlight and the vehicle bumper. With the aid of a light, you should be able to see all three bolts. Using a socket and an extension to your ratchet, remove the bolts, pull out the headlight assembly, and remove the lock ring. TAKE CARE TO HANDLE THE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY GENTLY so as to not alter the setting of the headlight in respect to the headlight frame. By taking care, it will not be necessary to have the headlight(s) adjusted.

Ranger won,t start with charger after headlights on all night. what is the problem?

Maybe the deep discharge on battery trashed it and now it will not take a charge. Sure the charger is working? Give it enough time to charge the battery - at least five hours.

Where do I find headlight relay switch on a 85 Nissan extended cab p/u

Pretty sure there is no relay for the headlights. There are two 10 amp fuses in the fuse block, one for each side headlight. The power to the fuses is directly off the black fusible link (in your fuse link box, under hood, by the battery). Then the fused wires go into the headlight switch, and with switch on, out to the head lamps.

First check if the fuses have power to them. Hot at all times, so key can be off. If they have power, fuse link is good, so possibly a bad headlight switch or dimmer switch if no headlights..

If the fuseable link needs replaced where is it located

Fusible links connect to battery power, usually somewhere along the red (positive) battery cable. On some vehicles the links connect to the red cable at the starter post connection, lots of GM cars put the links there. Older Fords had the links connect to the battery cable at the starter relay on the passenger fender. The links have to connect to direct positive battery power somewhere, because they work independent of the key switch being on or off. They get power from the battery and not from the ignition switch. Think of your headlights: you can use them with or without the key. That is because the fusible link (if so equipped) for the headlights gets power right off the battery.

Had to replace the headlight so had to take the battery out replaced headlight put battery back in now it wont crank just a clicking noise

It wont crank, just clicking noise. The battery terminals are not connected properly. Recheck battery connections. If battery connections are properly connected then its possible that starter and starter solenoid are not receiving voltage, due to this its just clicking. Most probably its connection issue between battery terminals or problem with starter and starter solenoid connections. ----- Click this link below for more troubleshooting:--- http://technoanswers.blogspot.com/2011/10/2002-ford-escape-will-not-startjust.html ---------- This will help.Thanks.Helpmech.

Both headlights went out at the same time on a 1997 ford explorer

first of all, answer this: Did you do some instalaltion before this happens? and then, check fuses and other connections of the headlights. If possible, take the bulbs out and test them with a direct line from the battery. If after the test the bulbs are on, then you have to check the cables and fuses. If the bulbs do not turn on in the test, then you have to buy extra bulbs to change the bad ones. EXTRA NOTE: It is really weird that both bulbs are burned... check other installations and cabling system.

Need to change headlight on 1998 Toyota Corolla

Unless you have really small hands, you are going to have to unbolt the battewry bracket, and move the battery backwards as far as possible. Then you will be able to see the connection where the bulb socket mounts behind the headlamp. There are 2 different styles of bulbs that you may find...
If you see a large rubber ring, remove it, and undo the silver clip to extract the bulb.
If the wiring/socket goes directly into the back of the headlamp, simply twist the socket 1/4 turn, and pull it out.
