Usually not, you take the housing around the steering column off and disassemble ignition assembly to replace tumblers. If to hard to do by yourself, you may call a locksmith to complete this task.

SOURCE: 1998 Chevy Blazer ignition parts in steering column

It is the passlock seneor. Is the wiring a 2 wire connector with an orange coating? If so then the connection is at the base of the column. You can tape the new wiring to a coat hanger put grease on it and fish it down through the column. You will have to perform a theft learn when you get it back together. Good Luck.

SOURCE: ignition tumbler locked up

try a spare key, or push key into lock while turning
it is the tip [pointy end] of the key that releases the switch tumbler lock allowing it to turn. keys & switches wear out, a 'heavy' key ring especially wears the switch.

SOURCE: replace power steering pump on a 1998 chevrolet

It could be done at home if you bought the proper tool to remove and replace the pully on the pump. They do give you some sort of a tool with the new pump but I find it really weak and they brake leaving you stuck. This is why I say"If you bought the proper tool".

How do I change the ignition cylinder on a 97 Chevy c1500 if can't turn key to on/run.

You need to remove the steering wheel , turn signal control and in the steering column you will find a pin that holds the tumblers in place for the key switch. You can remove the pin and then remove the key tumbler and replace it. Go to You Tube and they have videos on just what you need to do to remove the steering wheel and etc. Hope this helps.

Do i have to remove the steering wheel to change the ignition switch on a 2002 cavalier

Ignition switch located half way down steering column.
Ignition tumbler (Where you insert the key) Need to remove steering wheel, if tilt steering need remove c clip, then there is a hex bolt securing the tumbler.
Ignition switch is a bit more involved.

Replaced the ignition key switch and now my steering wheel clicks when i turn it what do i do

I've seen the plastic covers not go together correctly and rub the steering wheel. try removing the Key and tumbler and turn the steering wheel. Is the noise gone? Sometimes the new tumbler will not pull back the steering wheel lock enough and it will rub alittle. Check the steering wheel lock to see if it's pulling all the way away from the steering wheel.

I bought a 76 k5 blazer but there is no key for it how do u change the locking cylinder or what every you call it

You have to pull the steering wheel and components. Once you get down to the signal light cam, you take the screws out of it, lift it up and you will see the bolt that holds the tumbler in. Remove it, and your key and tumbler will come out. You will need a steering wheel puller.

How to remove key switch 1998 buick

This requires a couple of special tools, you'll need a steering wheel puller set with a lockring removal tool.Remove the steering wheel and horn wire connection. Remove the locking ring from the steering shaft. Now, with the key inserted in the key tumbler, turn the key to the run position. After doing this you'll be able to push in the key tumbler locking pin located near the base of the tumbler. If you do not have a key or it is not turning, then it will become necessary to replace the entire collar assembly. The amount of damage that is necessary to turn a non-working key is enough to ruin the collar permanently. Thank You, Dana
