The gas guage dont work
Parts store can tell if its marked and how, either it is a ten amp or less and is marked inst or is given a number..may have lost a ground on the connector behind the dash or at the tank itself..check both areas and repost findings..

Sounds like you have a ground problem, i doubt its in the sending units as both gauges are acting strange work, seeing that electricity likes paths of least resistance one gauge could be grounding through another. Bad grounds wreak havoc on electrical systems.

Unhook the battery hold the wires together for about 3 min, this should reset the cpu that runs the car. If that doesn't work check for a blown ground somewhere. Or you could have fried the guages, possible, but not likely. Don't forget to vote.
