Chevy Trucks, Blazers, S10 pickup and the like will vapor lock ecspecially the 2000 models. Do not tighten the gas cap past 1 click. There is a tube that runs from the top of the tank down and this gets hot and collapses or burns in half. We just bought a reinforced rubber tube cut it to lengh and use it instead of part and it's worked grat for 2 years so far.

SOURCE: "Cranks, but won't start". Replaced fuel pump, CKP, ICM & nothing

If the engine cranks over normally when you attempt to start you car, but the engine does not start, the problem may be NO FUEL, NO SPARK or NO COMPRESSION. The engine needs adequate fuel pressure, a properly timed spark and normal compression to start.

1) To find why the engine won't start, remove the air inlet tube from the throttle body, push the throttle open and spray a small amount of aerosol starting fluid into the engine. Crank the engine. If it has spark and compression but NO FUEL, it will start and run a few seconds before dying. If it does NOT start, it probably has NO SPARK.

2)Another method to check for spark is to pull a spark plug wire off of a spark plug (if it has plug wires, coil-on-plug ignitions do not) and place the open end of the plug wire near a metal surface on the engine. Have a helper crank the engine while you watch for a spark. DO NOT hold the wire while doing this as it can shock you. If you see a spark, the problem is not spark, but most likely NO FUEL or NO COMPRESSION. If you do not see a spark, the problem is in the IGNITION CIRCUIT.

3)Proper fuel pressure is critical for fuel injected engines to start and run. You should hear the fuel pump inside the fuel tank buzz for a couple of seconds when the ignition is turned on (no buzz means the pump is not running and the engine is not getting fuel). You can smell the tailpipe for gasoline vapors after cranking the engine. If you smell gas, the problem is likely not fuel but NO SPARK. You can also remove the plastic cap and press the schraeder valve test fitting on the fuel rail to see if there is any fuel pressure to the engine (not a very accurate test because fuel pressure must be at a certain level for the engine to start, for that you need a gauge). Even so, no fuel at the fuel rail would tell you fuel is not getting to the engine..

Ran fine now turns over but want start

i have worked on alot of cavaliers older and newer and most of the time when they shut them self off and wont start or you turn them off and they wont restart is usually the fuel pump, A new one will run you about 250.00 dollars and usually only have a 1 year warranty. The way to check the pump is to take off the gas tank lid but your ear real close to the nozzle and have someone turn the ignition key to the on possition and listen for a humming sound if you dont hear nothing then it is safe to say that the fuel pump have went out. hope this helps.

02 grand am died while driving, thought it ran out of gas, put gas in wont start still.have no fuel pressure but security light isnt on.

First off, you should turn the key on and see if you can hear the pump hum for about three seconds. You may have to take the cap off and have an assistant listen for the hum. If there is no hum, locate the relay. It is under the hood in the fuse block. The bottom of the cover should tell the location of it. Most of the relays are the same so swap out an identical one. Try the key again. DON'T TRY TO START. Just see if there is a hum in the on position. If there is no hum, try striking the center of the gas tank with a rubber mallet. One solid blow is enough. Listen again for the hum. It may start, but your pump is definitely bad. It may not start again. To change the pump, siphon the tank as low as possible. Disconnect the wiring, the filler tube and the two straps holding the tank under the car. A new pump will have the rest of the instructions for the job. Good Luck. If the pump does hum, you don't have a problem there. Check for spark. If you have the quad4 engine, check the coil pack cover for wear. It's like an inverted distributor cap mounted to the bottom of the cover, it is white plastic and can break down with age and mileage. If you have another car, have the coil packs tested. Oh and if you do hear the fuel pump turn on, try replacing the fuel filter before dropping the tank to change the fuel pump. Good luck.

there is no fuel pump cut off switch on this car, it is possible the fuel pump module was damaged from this accident, u will have to have the fuel pump circuit tested for faults before replacing the pump, don't guess, this is an expensive repair

Ran out of gas

Hi you need to change your fuel filter on your car as it is probably clogged with dirt as the car ran so low.
It is fitted under the car near the fuel tank.
Change your fuel filter first then check the fuel pump fuse as it may be blown as well if the pump was not able to pump fuel.
It should be a humming or hissing sound at the tank.

check to see if you can hear the fuel pump running.just cycle the key to the on position but dont turn over the motor you should hear a humming sound come from the fuel tank.if no sound check your fuses if all ok could be a bad fuel pump
or check to see if you have spark if no spak then it could be the module inside your distributor cap.it also controls the fuel pump.
