Not to hard. It depends if you have changed them before. Pull off the wheel, Go to the back of the caliper there should be 2 bolts top and bottom holding it on. 14mm or 17mm. They will be hard to get off. A small breaker bar is the best or 1/2 drive is always better. Take them out and the caliper will come right out.....maybe a tap with a sand hammer.

To Remove:
  1. Drain brake fluid to ½ full level in reservoir.

  4. Remove the 2 anti-squeal shims from each of the 2 brake pads.
  5. Remove the wear indicator from each of the 2 brake pads.
To Install:
NOTE: When replacing worn pads, the anti-squeal shims must be replaced together with the pads.

  1. Using a large C clamp or equivalent press piston into the caliper.
  2. Apply disc brake grease to the inside of each anti-squeal shim.
  3. Install the anti-squeal shims on each pad.
  4. Install the pad wear indicator clip to the pads.
  5. Install the pads with the pad wear indicator plate facing upward.
  6. Install the brake caliper with the 2 mounting bolts. Torque the bolts 25 ft-lb (34 Nm).
  7. Install the front wheels.
  8. Fill the master cylinder with new clean brake fluid.
  9. Pump the brake pedal several times to seat the brake pads.

To Remove:

  2. Remove the rear wheels.
  3. Remove the caliper slide pins.
  4. Remove the caliper slide pin bushings (TMMK made) (Kentucky).
  5. Remove the rear brake calipers.
  6. Remove the 2 brake pads with the anti-squeal shims.
  7. Remove the anti-squeal shims and pad wear indicators from brake pads.
To Install:
  1. Using a large C clamp or equivalent press the piston into the caliper.
  2. Coat both sides of the outer anti-squeal shim with pad grease.
  3. Install anti-squeal shims to each pad.
  4. Install wear indicators on the 2 brake pads.
  5. Install the caliper slide pin bushings (TMMK made) (Kentucky).
  6. Install the rear brake caliper with the slide pins. Torque the slide pins as follows:
    • TMC made (Japan): Torque the caliper slide pin 25 ft-lb (34.3 Nm)
    • TMMK made (Kentucky): Torque the caliper slide pin 34 ft-lb (47 Nm)
  7. Fill the master cylinder with new clean brake fluid.
  8. Pump the brake pedal several times to seat the brake pads.
  9. Install the rear wheels.

  1. Remove the front wheels.
  2. Remove the front brake caliper assembly.
  3. Remove the front brake pads.
  4. Remove the 2 bolts and caliper mounting bracket.

  6. Remove the front wheel disc.
To Install:
  1. Align the match marks and install the front disc.
  2. Install the brake caliper mounting bracket. Torque the bolts 79 ft-lb (107 Nm).
  3. Install the brake caliper. Torque the bolts 25 ft-lb (34 Nm).
  4. Install new gaskets and connect the brake hose to the caliper with the banjo fitting bolt. Torque the fitting bolt 22 ft-lb (29.4 Nm).
  5. Fill the reservoir with brake fluid.
  6. Bleed the brake system.
  7. Install the front wheel.
Rear To Remove:
  1. Remove the rear wheels.
  2. Remove the brake caliper assembly.
  3. Remove the brake pads.
  4. Remove the 2 bolts and the caliper mounting bracket.
  5. Place match marks on the disc and axle hub.
  6. Remove the rear disc.
To Install:
  1. Align the match marks and install the rear disc.
  2. Install the rear brake caliper mounting bracket. Torque the bracket bolts as follows:
    • TMC made (Japan): Torque the bracket bolt 46 ft-lb (61.8 Nm)
    • TMMK made (Kentucky): Torque the bracket bolt 34 ft-lb (47 Nm)
  3. Install the rear brake caliper with the slide pins. Torque the slide pins as follows:
    • TMC made (Japan): Torque the caliper slide pin 25 ft-lb (34.3 Nm)
    • TMMK made (Kentucky): Torque the caliper slide pin 32 ft-lb (43 Nm)
  4. Install new gaskets and connect the brake hose to the caliper with the banjo fitting bolt. Torque the fitting bolt 22 ft-lb (29.4 Nm).
  5. Fill the reservoir with brake fluid.
  6. Bleed the brake system.
  7. Install the rear wheel

Removal & Installation

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Front wheel Caliper mounting bolt Suspend the caliper from a wire Pads from the caliper support Pad retainers, if necessary

To install:
  1. Install or connect the following:

    Pad retainers, if removed Pads onto the pad retainers
  2. Compress the caliper piston using a C-clamp. Rotate the caliper downward and install the mounting bolt. Tighten to 16-24 ft. lbs. (22-32 Nm).
  3. Install the wheel.



Removal & Installation

How to replace front brake pads


  1. Remove 2/3 of the brake fluid from the master cylinder.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle.
  3. Mark (index) the relationship of the wheel to the hub.
  4. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Install 2 wheel nuts in order to retain the rotor.
  5. In order to push the piston into the caliper bore and provide clearance between the pads and the rotor, complete the following steps:
5.1. Install a large C-clamp (2) over the top of the caliper housing (1) and against the back of the outboard pad. 5.2. Slowly tighten the C-clamp (2) until the piston pushes into the caliper bore enough to slide the caliper (1) off the rotor. 81007416


  1. Remove the caliper bolts (2).

  1. Remove the caliper (2) from the rotor and caliper bracket. Suspend the caliper from the strut using a wire hook (1).

  1. Bottom the piston into the caliper bore. If installing new brake pads, use a C-clamp (2) in order to clamp the piston at the same time. Use a metal plate or wooden block across the face of the piston. Do not damage the piston or the caliper boot.

Vibration in rear of vehicle when braks are applied


I believe that the rear discs are warped or the tires are out of round when braking. More likely, the discs. --- The following are the instructions for replacing the front and rear pads for the front/back rotors. 1999-01 Grand Cherokee Front
  1. Drain 2?3 of the brake fluid from the front reservoir. Use the bleeder screw at the front outlet port to drain the fluid. If equipped with anti-lock brakes, relieve the system pressure.
  2. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  3. Remove the wheels.
  4. Insert a small prybar through the caliper opening and pry the caliper (using the outboard brake pad) to bottom the pistons in the caliper bore. NOTE: This will back the brake pads off of the rotor surface to facilitate the removal and installation of the caliper assembly.
  5. Pry the caliper support spring out of the caliper.
  6. Remove both caliper slide pin bushing caps and slide pins.
  7. Lift the caliper from the anchor.
  8. Using a piece of mechanics wire, support the caliper so there is not tension on the brake hose.

    To install:
  10. Position the brake pads onto the caliper.
  11. Position the caliper into place on the anchor.
  12. Coat the caliper slide pins with silicone grease and torque them to 21-30 ft. lbs. (29-41 Nm). Install the slide pin bushing caps.
  13. Install the caliper support spring in the top of the caliper under the anchor; then, install the other end into the lower caliper hole. NOTE: Hold the spring in the caliper hole with your thumb while prying the spring end out and under the anchor.
  14. Fill the master cylinder with fluid and bleed the brake system.
  15. Before driving the vehicle, pump the brakes several times to seat the pads.
  16. Install the wheels.
Rear

Will I need a caliper reset tool kit to change the brakes on my 2007 toyota sienna or will a standard c-clamp do the job? And since it is an ABS system, I assume that brakes must be bled, correct?


Brake Pads Removal & Installation Front To Remove:

  2. Loosen the caliper bleeder.
  3. Hold the slide pin; remove the 2 mounting bolts and remove the brake caliper from the support.
  4. Support the caliper.
  5. Open the brake bleeder. Press the caliper piston into the bore.
  6. Close the bleeder after the piston has reached the bottom of the caliper bore.
  7. Remove the brake pads, support plates, wear indicators and anti squeal shims.
  8. Remove the slide pins and bushings from the caliper support.
To Install:
  1. Lubricate the slide pins and bushings with brake grease.
  2. Install the bushing on the slide pin.
  3. Install the slide pin on the caliper support.
  4. Install the brake pad support plates on the caliper supports.
  5. Lubricate the anti squeal shims with brake grease.
  6. Install the anti squeal shims on the brake pads.
  7. Install the pad wear indicator facing upward and install the pads on the caliper support.
  8. Install the caliper on the support.
  9. Install the 2 mounting bolts, hold the slide pins and tighten 25 ft-lb (34 Nm).
  10. Fill the reservoir and bleed the brakes.
  11. Install the front wheels.
Rear To Remove:
  1. Remove the rear wheels.

How to take back rotors off a 1994 honda civic.


PATH: Brakes > Front Disc Brakes > Brake Disc (Rotor) > Removal & Installation Removal & Installation
  1. Raise and support the front of the vehicle on jackstands. Remove the front wheels.
  2. Remove the caliper assembly; do not let the caliper assembly hang by the brake hose, instead support it with a piece of wire looped around the front spring or control arm.
  3. Remove the retaining screw from the brake rotor and remove the rotor from the hub.

An impact driver, No. 3 phillips screwdriver bit, and a hammer may be needed to remove the retaining screw. It is fairly easy to destroy the screw slots using an ordinary phillips screwdriver to remove the tightly driven screw (see photo).

  1. To install the disc, replace the disc on the hub, screw in the retaining screw and replace the caliper assembly.

  6. Install the rotor in position. Install the two 6mm retaining screws.
  7. Install the brake caliper. Install the tire and wheel assembly.

Brake Caliper - Removal & Installation

CAUTION Dust and dirt accumulating on brake parts during normal use may contain asbestos fibers from production or aftermarket brake linings. Breathing excessive concentrations of asbestos fibers can cause serious bodily harm. Exercise care when servicing brake parts. Do not sand or grind brake lining unless equipment used is designed to contain the dust residue. Do not clean brake parts with compressed air or by dry brushing. Cleaning should be done by dampening the brake components with a fine mist of water, then wiping the brake components clean with a dampened cloth. Dispose of cloth and all residue containing asbestos fibers in an impermeable container with the appropriate label. Follow practices prescribed by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for the handling, processing, and disposing of dust or debris that may contain asbestos fibers.
Inspect the fluid level in the brake master cylinder reservoir. If the brake fluid level is midway between the maximum-full point and the minimum allowable level, no brake fluid needs to be removed from the reservoir before proceeding. If the brake fluid level is higher than midway between the maximum-full point and the minimum allowable level, remove brake fluid to the midway point before proceeding.
  1. Raise the vehicle and suitably support.
  2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
  3. Pull down on the front park brake cable.
  4. Remove the front park brake cable from the park brake cable connector.
    NOTE When using a large C-clamp to compress a caliper piston into a caliper bore of a caliper equipped with an integral park brake mechanism, do not exceed more than 1 mm (0.039 in.) of piston travel. Exceeding this amount of piston travel will cause damage to the internal adjusting mechanism and/or the integral park brake mechanism.
  5. Install a large C-clamp over the top of the brake caliper housing and against the back of the outboard brake pad. Compress the brake caliper piston into brake caliper bore to allow the piston enough clearance to slide the brake caliper off the brake rotor.
  6. Remove the C-clamp.
    NOTE Be sure to plug the opening in the brake caliper and brake hose to prevent fluid loss and/or contamination.
  7. Remove brake hose to caliper bolt attaching the brake hose to the brake caliper.
  8. Remove the brake hose from the brake caliper.
  9. Remove and discard the two copper brake hose gaskets. These gaskets may be stuck to the brake caliper and/or the brake hose end.
  10. Remove the park brake cable bracket from the brake caliper. Leave the park brake cable attached to the cable bracket.
  11. Disconnect the park brake cable from the park brake lever on the brake caliper.
  12. Remove the lower brake caliper pin bolt.
  13. Rotate the brake caliper up.
  14. Remove the brake caliper from the upper brake caliper pin bolt.
To install:
  1. If reusing the brake caliper retainers, clean the sleeves using denatured alcohol, or equivalent.
  2. Lubricate the brake caliper pin bolts with a thin coat of high temperature silicone lube.
  3. Install the brake caliper to the upper caliper pin bolt.
  4. Rotate the brake caliper down over the brake pads into the brake caliper bracket.
  5. Install the brake caliper pin bolts. Tighten the brake caliper pin bolts to 27 Nm (20 ft. lbs.).
  6. Remove the plugs in the brake hose end.
    NOTE Install NEW copper brake hose gaskets.
  7. Assemble the brake hose bolt and the NEW copper brake hose gaskets to the brake hose.
  8. Install the brake hose to caliper bolt to the brake caliper. Tighten the brake hose to caliper bolt to 44 Nm (33 ft. lbs.).
  9. Connect the park brake cable to the park brake lever on the brake caliper.
  10. Install the park brake cable bracket to the brake caliper. Tighten the park brake cable bracket bolt to 43 Nm (32 ft. lbs.).
  11. Install the front park brake cable to the park brake cable connector.
  12. Bleed the brake system.
  13. With the engine OFF, gradually apply the brake pedal to approximately 2 / 3 of its travel distance.
  14. Slowly release the brake pedal.
  15. Wait 15 seconds, then repeat until a firm brake pedal is obtained. This will properly seat the brake caliper pistons and brake pads.
  16. Install the tire and wheel assembly.
  17. Lower the vehicle.

NOTE The Bosch 2U ABS system cannot increase brake pressure above master cylinder pressure applied by during braking. There is no need to depressurize the system prior to service.
  1. Remove brake fluid from the master cylinder reservoir until the reservoir is approximately 1 / 3 full.
  2. Remove the front wheel. Mark the position of the wheel to the wheel studs, prior to removal, for installation reference.
  3. Install 2 lug nuts to retain the rotor once the caliper is removed.
  4. Using a large C-clamp, bottom the piston in the caliper bore by positioning the C-clamp on the outboard pad and on the round portion of the brake caliper where the piston is housed.
  5. Remove the banjo bolt that fastens the brake hose to the brake caliper. Discard the gaskets.
  6. Cap the brake line to avoid excessive fluid loss or fluid contamination.
  7. Remove the rubber dust boots from the caliper mounting bolt heads (if equipped).
  8. Remove the caliper mounting bolts.
  9. Remove the park brake cable from the caliper.
  10. Remove the caliper from the vehicle.
  11. Remove the brake pads.
To install:
  1. Install the brake pads. Lubricate the slides where the caliper mounts on the steering knuckle with silicone grease.
  2. Install the caliper over the rotor.
  3. Install the caliper mounting bolts. Torque the mounting bolts to 38 ft. lbs. (51 Nm).
  4. Install the park brake cable.
  5. Install the rubber dust boots over the caliper mounting bolt heads (if equipped).

  6. Check the clearance between the brake caliper and caliper bracket stops. If the clearance is too tight, check the caliper leading and trailing edges for build up. File down as necessary.
  7. Connect the brake hose to the caliper. Install the brake hose banjo bolt, using new gaskets, and torque to 33 ft. lbs. (45 Nm).
  8. Remove the lug nuts used to secure the rotor.
  9. Install the wheel, aligning the reference marks made during removal, and torque the lug nuts to 100 ft. lbs. (140 Nm).
  10. Refill the master cylinder and bleed the brake system using the recommended procedure.
  11. Road test the vehicle and check for proper braking performance

How do you remove the rear brake caliper on 1996 mercury grand marquis


Removal & Installation
  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  2. Remove the rear wheel and tire assembly.
  3. Remove the brake fitting retaining bolt from the caliper and disconnect the flexible brake hose from the caliper. Plug the hose and the caliper fitting.
  4. Remove the caliper locating pins. Lift the caliper off the rotor and anchor plate using a rotating motion.

WARNING Do NOT pry directly against the plastic piston or damage to the piston will occur.

  1. Position the caliper assembly above the rotor with the anti-rattle spring located on the lower adapter support arm. Install the caliper over the rotor with a rotating motion. Make sure the inner pad is properly positioned.
  2. Install the caliper locating pins and start them in the threads by hand. Tighten them to 19-26 ft. lbs. (26-35 Nm).
  3. Install the brake hose on the caliper with a new gasket on each side of the fitting outlet. Insert the retaining bolt and tighten to 30-40 ft. lbs. (40-54 Nm).
  4. Bleed the brake system, install the wheel and tire assembly and lower the vehicle.
  5. Pump the brake pedal prior to moving the vehicle to position the linings.
  6. Road test the vehicle.

Removing front brake calipers to chage brake pads and rotors


remove the BOTTOM 15mm caliper bolt lift the caliper up and slide off
then remover the 2 15mm bolts holding the caliper housing on
remove the brake rotor (you may have to hit it with a hamer to break it free
depending on the brake pads you got some come with new sliders
remove the sliders clean the rust build up then install new sliders
lube the sliders install the pads
install new rotor
install the caliper housing with the 2 15mm bolts
install the caliper and lube both caliper pins with silicone lube
install wheels
PUMP THE BRAKE PEDAL TILL IT GETS HARD WITHOUT ENGINE RUNNING

How do i remove the rear rotor on a 2000 ford explorer xlt


  1. Disconnect the brake hose.
  2. Remove bolt.
  3. Disconnect the rear wheel brake hose (2A442).
  4. Remove the copper washers and plug the brake hose.
  5. Disconnect the brake hose.

Disc Removal
