If there is a way, this is news to me. At one time the Catalytics had a removable plug where the pellets went, but I have never seen the pellets available for sale. Then later the insides were modified to have screened partitions to do the job of the pellets.

What most people do is fix the "rich" fuel mix problem and then hope that the Catalytics will burn off the excess gunk that has accumulated. There are some fuel additives that may help, but do not wash the converters with gasoline, or any combustible product as they may become bombs.

The insides of the converters run well into mid 1500 Degree and higher temperature range. Some even glow red while working. You would not be able to heat the insides of a converter thoroughly enough to make a difference or be able to get rid of the soot produced without airlow.

Good Luck on this, best I can say is rehang them and see if they will self correct.

Using an air hose may be the only thing you can try, at least if you are talking about 2 converters you can compare flow from one against the other.

If you cant see air (daylight) through the converter, try using compressed air in it and blowing thru the converter..check it again to see it it opens up a little..how long it lasts depends on how the car runs..if its blocked up, time for a replacement(usually gets hot if plugged up)..some folks will due to funds, ram a pipe or a crowbar thru the guts and break the center out and reinstall it..but seriously, I dont recommend it..I have heard of it being done tho..good luck...

P0431 code came out

exhaust leak,or bad sensor, even the converter,
look for an exhaust leak first then the sensor next lastly the converter. My bet is on a exhaust leak, even a stuck EGR valve might need cleaning because it shows up as a leak as well.Good luck,Gary

I have a 1997 ford explorer and it reads 1 2 4 6 cylinders are misfiring and bank 1 and 2 are lean and bank 2 sensor 2 problem please help!!!!

If the front oxygen sensors have over 100,000 miles
on them change & then work on vacuum leaks in exhaust
prior to converter & then ignition misfires

Spark Plugs--every 3 years
Clean MAF Sensor

Exhaust Converter may be shot, then only last 12 to 14 years
If so-- then do the rear sensors as well

Loss of power. changed gas filter, cleaned mass air flow, checked gap on plugs. Its not the knock sensor.

Check your service record for the last catalytic converter change.

Most cat. can last up to 140,000 miles.

A muffler shop can check the inlet and outlet temperature to verify the functionality of the unit.

The exist temperature must be higher than the inlet.

Trouble code po430 what does this mean? also car sputters or hesitates when drivng runs smooth at idle ?

This code means the Catalytic converter on bank 2 is not working efficiently. If your car is acting up with hesitation the Catalytic may be getting fouled by the way the engine is running. There may be another Code to read for the problem that caused the Catalytic converter to foul.

You have between 25 and 35 Startups before a Code is erased. Consider the Code 430 as the last Code recorded and the other Codes were beyond the 25 to 35 Startup limit.

You have several choices. (Autozone and Oreillys give free scans) There are fuel additives which claim to clean the fuel system and Catalytic converters. You can have the car put on a better machine at a Dealer to find the cause of the hesitation. BUT tell them you want the type of test for cylinder balance and timing issues, not just Code numbers.

Once you restore the engine to Specs, the Catalytic converter may clean itself over time.

Acura 2001 3.2 CL has converter problem. How long is transmission expected to last if converter is repaired?

Very few shops have the specialty equipment necessary to repair a converter...they are generally replaced. Determining how long a transmission will last after a replacement depends upon what had failed in the converter. Any internal failure that causes fine metal contamination should not be done as a "stand alone" repair, regardless of if it was in the converter or the transmission itself. Both must be replaced. (or rebuilt) as both units share the same oil supply. As far as how long the trans will last, that is anyones guess...depends on the miles, kind of use it got and if it was regularly serviced. Not changing it if the converter did generate any metal, is nearly a guarantee that it will fail very soon.

Have had two catalytic converters go out in last 8 months

Catalytic converters should last the life of the vehicle. usually they are damaged be a poorly running engine. most common causes are lean misfire causing unburnt fuel and air to get into the convert and ignite there. coolant or oil burning. engine running too hot (lean) overheating converters.

was it the same converter that went twice? did they change them at the same time? where the pre-converters? is the engine light on?

Catalytic converter

any shop can diagnose it for you..if the catalytic converter is bad you have to replace it there is no repairing or cleaning the old ones. take it to any auto shop and have them test it or even to a muffler shop and have them do it.it probably does needd a new one
