SOURCE: mercury sable 2002 serpentine belt change

There are also two serpentine belt types for the 2002 sable. The S and U type engine. Take the old belt with you the the parts store. As for the diagram, I googled it under images and about a dozen correct ones came up. Remember the 2002 sable is the same as the 2002 Tarus.

SOURCE: a mercury sable 2002 crankshaft diagram

You must remove the transmmission. then if you can make enough room by releasing the motor mounts and placing two by fours under them you'll be able to gain acess to drop the oil pan. Drain it, first of course. After which, you'll need to remove the timing belt/chain cover. But before this you'll need to remove the waterpump, power steering pump, A/C if so eqipt, and the alternator. Then you'll be able to remove the timing cover. Line up all timing marks and remove the belt/chain. Then you may have to remove the oil sump tube and screen "IF" it is in the way of dropping the crankshaft. Loosen the crank. bearing bolts in a military rotation from center to out side. Keep each bearing cap in the exact position it came from the engine block on a diagrammed piece of cardboard. You should then be able to remove the crankshaft.Reverse the order for replacement.Put some bearing grease on the new bearings to keep them in place while reassembling the engine. Good Luck!, Dana

SOURCE: Remove the right rear door panel in a Mercury Sable

Removed two screws from the perimeter of the door, one in the back edge and the other under the bottom. Remove one screw from the handle cup where the window switch is located. Placed some tape around the edge of the handle cup for protection against scratches and pried the cup out with a small putty knife. It is hard, but will pop out. Next I taped the paint around the door panel and used a flat bar to reach behind the panel and had enough of a gap to see the orange tabs and pried each one to remove the panel completely. The panel does not need to be lifted up to removed, just pull it straight off the door. A few tabs may still be holding, but will pop off with a bit of pressure.

Have you checked the oil level in the engine ?
The oil warning light is for low oil pressure - but it could come on if the engine is low on oil too.

I have a 1999 mercury sable and when I fill the resivore the water runs into the oil pan.

if you are saying the coolant reservoir is emptying inot the oil pan, then you have a bown hed gasket or intake gasket. $$$$$$$. How long does it take to empty? Is the oil milky looking?
How do you know it's going into the oil pan?

Is it wise to buy a 2002 mercury sable with the 3.0 OHV engine with 28,000 original miles? Are these engines dependable, attaining high mileage (over 200, 000)?

You can probably expect over 200,000 if you keep up on maintnence with regular oil changes and everything but anything with only 28,000 miles is really good!!!

Steam coming from the tailpipe of my car after replacing radiator

Question? Does the coolant get low as you drive? If so you may have a head gasket problem, stop driving it. Check the oil to see if it's milky, if not replace the head gasket, if the oil is milky, replace the engine.
