Parking brake stuck - 1999 GMC Sonoma

park brake light is come on when parking brake is set position. if light stays on when released the switch is located on the parking brake is defective and needs to be replaced, generally not to difficult to accomplish this replacement

Shift cable is broken or out of adjustment

It sounds like the parking brake cable had jammed and possibly broke. I would lift the rear of the vehicle in the air and try rotating a tire. If it does not move at all the brakes are locked and need to replace emergency brake cable.

It is a safety aspect, fix the brakes and u will fix the problem

Because of the inclination may be holding it stucked,u let the car from the hand brake and it stucked need to pull front/back to pop it.never let the hand brake before putting it out/in park mode.U may let it down if firmly holding the brakes ,yet put out of park before release the brakes.

Possibly one of the pedal or bracket mounting bolts may have loosened up and is jammed against the pedal lever.

HAVE SOMEONE GO BEHIND THE CAR AND CHECK AND MAKE SURE THE BRAKE LIGHTS ARE ON, IF THEY DON'T WORK THEN THERE IS NO POWER TO THE BRAKE PARK INTER-LOCK SOLENOID AND YOU CAN NOT DIS-ENGAGE PARK. IF THEY DON'T WORK CHECK THE FUSE, IF IT IS OK REPLACE THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH.
