Question about 2000 Hyundai Accent

No heat and engine noise

Hi i have a 2000 hyundai accent that has given me nothing but trouble since i bought it used 2 years ago!!! Have spent a fortune on replacing most of the engine parts - the last was a new radiator. Now i noticed a strange kind of loud vibrating noise coming from the engine, and this morning i had no heat inside the car. We have just moved to Colorado - dunno if the climate change has anything to do with it. I just need to know am i going to break down in it when i pick my son up from school??!! And if you have any ideas what the problem might be i'd be eternally grateful. Thank you

Vanessa

ok just checked the oil levels - they seem fine. I did forget to mention that after a while i get a squealing noise also - i know thats probably the timing belt. Start up is fine, these nioses only occur after driving it for a while - maybe 10 minutes. Appreiciate your help.

Ok think i found it - cant see anything leaking. Do you think thats probably the problem and do you know if this is going to be another expensive fix?

that to me would indicate the power steering ... check the fluid level in it.

have you checked the level of the oil... and it's difficult to predict when a car will break down... but that sounds like it will soon unfortunately.

Not sure why i didn't think of that... if you can look at the water pump... see if any fluid is leaking from out of the small holes at the front

look for a large hose going from the bottom of the radiator to a fitting on the motor... you will see that it has a pulley on it driven by the belt... that's the water pump

  • Roberta Smith

check the radiator to see the level it is at... making sure the motor is COLD first... it is likely the water pump... replacing it isn't horridly expensive.... not as expensive as overheating the motor til meltdown which is likely to happen if the water pump completely fails

Water pump is going out from the sound of it i wouldnt drive it too far with the noise its got, its going to be the bearings in the water pump making the noise

its on the motor on the side where all the belts are..it runs on a pulley and if the bearing are going out as i think they are it wont last much longer. it will make squealing noises and if youre not careful you can fry the motor.

  • Ronnie Houston Jan 26, 2009

it dosent have to leak to be bad,,,and it will cost about 300 to 400 to repair unless you have a friend that can do it for you. a shop charges for the part and the labor. but yes im almost completely certain your water pump is going out. it would also explain the no heat problem

    you are more than welcome

Mi hyundai accent GLS 2002 tiene el check encendido y tiene los errores p1401 y el p0442, que puede ser y como puedo solucionarlo, ademas la luz del dasch se apaga y se enciende constantemente que puede...

The 2000 model year Accent adopts a different "pressurized" leak check system capable of detecting a 0.020" (0.5 mm) diameter leak (previous Hyundai systems detect a 0.040" [1mm] diameter leak using engine vacuum). The new system uses a Diagnostic Module for Tank Leakage (DM-TL) to close and pressurize the fuel evaporative emissions system. The DM-TL replaces the fuel tank pressure sensor and the canister close valve from previous systems. Other significant changes were made to the system logic, including several new diagnostic trouble codes. It compares the differences between the 2000 model year Accent and previous evaporative emission systems... Que puede ser? Tiene dos opciones. Primero, puede pagar que un tecnico diaga el problema (exactamente) o sigue, secudariamente, su adivnaza.

Go to www.hmaservice.com and register your vehicle by VIN #..
you'll then have access to wiring diagrams, shop manuals,
service bulletins, illustrations, etc. To diagnose a 2000 or 2001 1.5L Accent Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P1128 (FUEL SYSTEM LEAN -- PART LOAD), check the following:
  • Check the intake system for air leaks.
  • Check that the Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor (P/N 28164-22610) operation meets the specifications listed below. If the MAF sensor output is significantly lower than the reference value (10% or more), then replace the MAF sensor.

Lifter problem in 2001 Hyundai accent GL

The noise you hear could very well be a lifter. But that is not what is causing your engine light to come on. The engine light problem can be diagnosed by having the codes read. You can have this done for free at most national parts chains such as Advance or Auto Zone. Good luck! I hope you find this to be very helpful!

Does the 2000 accent have a self diagnose facility? (like the toyota camerys of a few years ago?) How do I activate it and what are the codes?

All cars built after 1996 sold in the USA have to have OBDII diagnostics. You don't need to activate anything. To read the code, you can 1. buy a scan tool 2. Pay a garage to diagnose the code 3. Go to your local autoparts chain and they will read the codes for free. Call first.
You may not have a code if your trouble light or check engine light is not on.
