SOURCE: 1996 Chrysler Sebring fuel pump automatic shut off

It sounds like the vent hose or tube from the fuel tank to the side of the inlet assembly is restricted. It can be twisted or bent. I've seen one case where it was misrouted and smashed against the frame rail. The vent tube allows air to escape while filling with fuel.

SOURCE: 04 chev. 1500 fuel tank will not take gas, gas

Evap vent solenoide is stuck closed. Start by replacing the valve and checking the hose to the valve for clogs...this is located between the cab of the truck and the bed of the truck on the driver side (can be seen if you look down through the crack)....If this doesn't work then check the fuel filler neck hose for kink or restriction this is the hose that goes from the gas cap to the fuel tank.

SOURCE: Filling my gas tank the pump keeps shutting off

Its a fact the pump will kick off on some makes especially trucks. here is a hint. When filling up insert the nozzle fully and then pull it back one inch. This way it will not stop or splash back at you which some pumps do

Ran out of gas put gas in and now the car will not start

Running out of gas on a fuel injected vehicle, is very bad. Mostly, due to the fuel lines get pumped up with compressed fuel vapor. The pump can quit from running dry, & need replaced. See if youcan find the shrader valve on the fuel line, easily found on most GM's, usually none on Fords. I sometimes crack the rear fuel line (steel) on end of fuel rail. Crank a few times with the ECM fuse out so it cannot accidentally fire, if fuel comes out. Another alternative, until the fuel pump get fuel to the fuel rail.....is spray a few short shots of "starting fluid" on the air filter. (about a 4 second count). SpraY; 1 ONE THOUSAND, 2 ONE THOUSAND,3 ONE THOUSAND, 4. No more than that, then put the filter back in, close the box quickly, without snapping in & crank. DOes it run then, if it sputters & spurts, proably needs a fuel pump. On fuel injected vehicles, they are usually in the tank.

On way to gas station car stopped, not quite out of gas but almost. push her to station and fill her up. Car still will not start. She acts like she wants to turn over and maybe like she is not getting...

Let her sit for a little while. Then, turn the car to the "run" position, and assuming you have an electronic fuel pump, it will begin to prime itself (Because you probably lost prime when it ran out of fuel). Keep doing this about 5-10 times, leaving it in the "Run" position for 20 seconds. If you have a mechanical fuel pump, however (you will know because turning the key to "on" with the blower motor off makes no noise, unless it's the electronic fan), you will just have to keep cranking, letting the starter cool back down, and repeating until it fires off.

NEVER LET A CAR WITH ELECTRICAL FUEL PUMP RUN OUT OF GAS BECAUSE FUEL PUMP WILL OVER HEAT AND BECOME DAMAGED.GASOLINE KEEP FUEL PUMP COOL AND LUBRICATES IT.IF GAS TANK RUNS DRY FUEL PUMP WILL OVER HEAT AND SELF DESTRUCT.

hi this is the fuel vent line, or breather hose from the tank, you need to locate this under your vehicle should be roughly half way down the filler, or in some cases on top of the fuel tank, it is possible it is blocked with road dirt as they normally do..just a tip for you when you access the hose, extend the hose so it does not fill with dirt and you should be ok...hope this helps please rate thanks

Every time you try to pump gas, the gas pump shuts off every 5 seconds. Doesn't matter how slow or fast you allow gas to come out. Doesn't matter what gas station. You never know when it is filled. Gas...

try disconnecting the fuel line leading into the fuel pump, let out a little fuel, then reconnect it. then disconnect the fuel line leading out of the fuel pump, letting out a little fuel.
if that doesnt work, run the car completely out of gas once. turn the engine over a few times while empty.
have you tried pumping gas with the enigine running? see if that helps. if this does help, it is probably the vacuum someplace, near the fuel injectors?

2004 chevy 2500 wont take gas into gas tank

I am having the same problem. When turning the pump on full speed it will pump for a few seconds before kicking the pump off like the tank is full even though there is no gas in the tank. I can pump gas if I barely start the pump and hold it by hand but very very slowly so it takes about 20 minutes to fill up. Its not the gas station or the way I am holding the nozzle as I have stopped 20 different places and tried every way imaginable to hold the nozzle. I have changed the filler neck, charcoal canister, and the sensor/filter that is on the side of it that I believe opens to allow fuel vapor to escape and let pressure off the tank when the truck is not running... still no luck. When I had the fuel next off there is a check valve that is made into the top next part of the tank that is spring loaded. I figured this was to keep gas from running back out in the event of a rollover and possibly keep someone from putting a hose down the next and stealing gas. At this point that is the only thing that could possibly be causing the pump to contiune to kick off every few seconds when filling up the tank. Next is to change the tank I suppose unless someone has already ran into this issue and can tell me what I need to do to fix the problem.
