you really need the dealer for this one. car is too new and should be under warrenty. This should not of happen. Most likely you have a computer issue with codes stored that will direct the technician in fixing this.

SOURCE: i have a toyota corolla
You can visit a Toyota dealership and order a new remote for around $70 and have it programmed to your car. They may charge a programming fee, but we usually don't. Chances are you aren't in New Zealand though :) You are right in saying you can't change the battery on some remotes as there is no screw, but I have seen some people crack them open and successfully replace the battery.

SOURCE: I have locked the steering
You may have to use a little muscle here. When this happens, turning you steering wheel to the left usually will release the ignition lock cylinder so tha you can turn the key. Make sure you hold the steering wheel once you have turned it. Keep in mind, it won't turn very far. One side you turn to will feel like it hit something solid, the other side you turn to will be the unlock side.
Turn steering wheel and hold until you are able to turn the key. It will take a bit of effort on your part, but that should get it back going.
