I've had this problem as well, with both front doors..I had a friend/backyard mechanic take the panel off from the inside he was able to release the lock.. I bought new actuators and replaced the inside door handles which weren't working and now it's fine.

The lock on the driver side door wont unlock and the door wont open

Hey Kim!

Well, the first question is, and please don't think I am under estimating you on anything, is can you pull up at all on the lock rod? Or, does it feel jammed? Second, yes, the door has to be open to remove the panel because of the bottom pins that hold the panel to the door.

So, let's try and get the door open first.

1998 4x4 ford explore driver side door will not

There are long linkage rods from the inside handle to the latch assembly. There should be an adjustment on these links. Too tight keeps latch from locking, too loose it won't unlatch. Use a screw driver or rod to trip the latch asm so you don't have to keep opening and closing the door. Also if it sticks closed and won't unlatch, the door won't be locked closed on you.

Greetings - I have a 1992 Ford explorer, the driver side door is jammed shut. It will not open from outside or inside. I am thinking I must rip open the inside door to get to the lock! What do you...

2 options. Find a tow truck company and have them go through the window with a " slim jim" tool to open door, so as not to ruin it, or take apart the interior panel

Drivers door does not lock

you will have to remove the door panel, check for a disconnected linkage or a broken door latch, sometimes it just needs cleaning and lube, good luck.

Explorer Drivers Door unlocks part way when pressing key fob but not enough to open door

This eventually happens to every one of these Ford Explorers. (I've had two of these, and you can just check elsewhere online to see how common a problem this is, especially on the driver's side, since that's the side that gets used the most.)

The automatic door locking mechanism has a lever tab (connects to the long wire rod) that gets bent slightly out of position and prevent the door lock from fully extending. If you remove the door panel, you may be able to access the assembly and carefully bend the tab back into it's proper alignment.

Otherwise, the appears to be a couple hundred dollar fix at your local Ford dealer.

Drivers side door lock wont open with remote 98 ford explorer

The drivers door lock actuator is not working. It is inside the door, and it is quite a job to repair and not cheap. If your good at fixing this type of thing, you can remove the door panel and replace it...... or, have a local repair shop replace it.
