For you to get a good look and be 100% of what it is YOU WILL HAVE TO REMOVE HEAD, I would more like suggest a burnt valve rather than a bent valve unless you broke the timing belt on this vehicle. Good Luck and contact if you need more help. Thanks for using FIX YA

1993 nissan pickup 12 valve running of 3 cyliners. Removed spark plug wires and found that one cylinder was dead, then removed the spark plug wire from this cylinder, grounded it and had spark.

Can you do a compression test?

There may be something amiss with the piston or valve.. and it's usually the exhaust valve that has burnt/split, allowing compression to be kicked straight out of the exhaust. The symptom of a burnt/split exhaust valve is akin to a misfiring spark plug

What is good compression on a 2006 hyundai accent

i am guessin you have the 1.6l engine. from what i recall a few months back while reading through a service manual, the ideal compression ratio should be about 190psi, with a minimum ratio of 170psi. the difference in the cylinders should not exceed 20psi. based on the results you have given, i think you have a serious problem. i would recommend you try a "wet' compression test. that would atleast give an indication of whether or not the piston rings are worn out as well.
to answer your second question, the 1.6l has a total of 16 valves, four per cylinder, 2 exhaust and 2 intake.

Does a2000 kia sportage worp vales when belt breaks

It could definitely have bent your valve stems if you were at a high rate of speed when belt broke, do a compression check

I have a 2005 kia sportage. May have broken a timing belt . How will I know if I messed up my engine

Four cylinder or V6? Best case scenario you bent some valves. Worst case scenario you put a hole through piston. If the belt is broke before you replace it you can pull the valve cover and remove the cam bearing caps so all the valves will be closed. Then use a compression gauge to see if all the cylinders still have compression. Off the top of my head it should be around 130psi. If you have one or more with significantly less compression you have bigger issues.

Timing chain broke and bent valves in my 202 pontiac grand am, all has been replaced and now cylinder #3 has no compression

Put #3 cylinder in firing position then put air pressure in that cylinder and remove the oil cap. If air comes out throttle body the intake valve is leaking. If air comes out the tail pipe the exhaust valve is leaking. If air comes out where the oil cap came off the piston is leaking.

I have a 2001 Kia sportage, the dealer said it was a late model so he said it is a 2002. The timing belt broke and I can not get it to run smooth again. It will start but has no compression.

2.0 is a non clearance motor. When the timing belt slips the piston comes up and hits the valves and bends them. Unfortunately due to the belt teeth stripped out and the crankshaft continuing to turn when the cam did not turn left the valves open and the piston bent the valves. You will have to remove the cylinder head and check the cylinder head if it needs surfaced and do a valve job on the head and replace any valves that are bent. Make sure the piston is not damaged (hole punched in it from the valve)

I have a 2002 kia sportage does it have a non interference engine? How would I find out? My timing belt broke and I need to know what kind of damage it could do.

You would be very lucky to get away without any damage. For the moment, get a timing belt, line up the timing marks, put the belt on and adjust it as per the manual. Turn the engine by hand, or using the pulley bolt. If after two turns of th engine, that is a complete 360 and nothing stops or locks up then you may not have any damage at all. Try and start the car.

The most likely damage would be, bent valves, broken or burst pistons, valve pushed through the cylinder head, in other words a shot engine. This is the worst case scenario, but it is most likely that one of the above will have happened, in which case the engine will not turn through 360, you should then proceed to take off the cylinder head and check for damage.

In the good old days, you could have a timing belt break without any damage, not now though, particularly with 16vs. although damage also occurs with 8 and 12 vavle engines.
